Senior Staff Software Engineer, Feed Recommendation Infrastructure
About The Position
Google is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer for its Feed Recommendation Infrastructure work. The role is part of the Infrastructure team supporting Discover’s AI transformation: evolving the recommendation feed into a deeply personalized, GenAI-powered engine for billions of users. The engineer will lead development of Growth Acceleration Infrastructure, an AI-in-the-loop experimentation and productionization platform intended to help product teams validate ideas rapidly and scale successful ideas to users. The role requires technical leadership in large-scale infrastructure and AI/ML systems. The engineer will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, and design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions. The position also contributes to Google Search’s infrastructure and its effort to address complex engineering challenges while maintaining a universally accessible and useful experience.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in software development.
- 7 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
- 5 years of experience with design and architecture, and testing and launching software products.
- Experience integrating generative AI tools or LLM interfaces into workflows and designing distributed systems for large-scale AI/ML workloads.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
- 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
- 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
- Experience building and deploying recommendation system models in production, including retrieval, prediction, ranking, personalization, search quality, or embedding models.
Responsibilities
- Convert strategy into a roadmap and produce short-term and long-term plans.
- Coordinate development across teams and drive launches.
- Build prototypes for proof of concept.
- Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects.
