About The Position

Pebl is seeking a visionary Senior Staff Engineer, UI Architect to define the future of our UI, focusing on AI-driven interfaces. This role involves spearheading the development of AI experiences, owning the architectural vision for scalable, user-centric UI systems and the design system. You will lead the adoption of agent-driven UI using Google's A2UI spec, working with ReactJS, TypeScript, Postgres, and AWS in a serverless environment. The position champions an "AI-native" engineering culture and requires in-office collaboration at least 3 days per week in Palo Alto, California. You will be an individual contributor.

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
10+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on front-end development and UI architecture.
Deep, hands-on expertise in ReactJS, TypeScript, and modern front-end engineering.
Proven track record of setting and driving front-end architectural vision for scalable, maintainable, high-performance UI systems.
Demonstrated experience building, scaling, or serving as a primary owner/contributor to a design system or shared component library.
Hands-on experience designing and building AI-first, user-facing product experiences (e.g., generative or LLM-powered interfaces).
Hands-on experience using LLM-powered coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, and other AI coding assistants.
A bias for delivering customer value by cutting waste, optimizing workflows, iterating in small steps, and continuously improving.
Solid knowledge of performance optimization, accessibility standards, and responsive design.
Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions, make architectural decisions, and align engineering with business objectives.
Exceptional communication and the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with agent-driven and generative-UI approaches — ideally Google's A2UI, along with related protocols such as A2A and AG-UI.
Demonstrated ability to go deep on an emerging standard fast and lead its adoption.
Solid understanding of backend technologies such as Postgres and AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, etc.).
Experience with serverless architectures.
Experience with growth-focused engineering projects.

Responsibilities

Spearhead the development of our AI-first, user-facing product experiences, working in close collaboration with our AI/agent engineering teams.
Lead our adoption of Google's A2UI spec, defining how agents describe interfaces and owning the renderer strategy, component catalog design, event/round-trip model, and transport approach.
Define and drive the architecture for our front-end systems, focused on scalability, maintainability, and performance.
Own and evolve the design system and shared component library, including tokens, primitives, composition patterns, theming, and accessibility.
Champion an "AI-first" engineering culture, integrating LLM harnesses into daily workflows.
Partner with AI/agent engineers, backend engineers, product managers, and designers to ensure seamless integration.
Evaluate and recommend tools, libraries, and frameworks, including emerging agent/generative-UI standards.
Supervise and review the team's work for alignment with architecture decisions, coding standards, and guidelines.
Conduct technical reviews and mentor engineers in implementing complex front-end and agent-driven solutions.
Actively identify technical debt and architectural improvements.
Advocate for and implement strategies that improve accessibility, usability, and overall user experience.
Make deliberate short- and long-term tradeoffs in service of the architectural vision and customer value.
