Senior Staff Software Engineer, Managed Platform Services

CrusoeSan Francisco, CA
$245,000 - $295,000Remote

About The Position

We are seeking a Sr Staff Software Engineer to anchor distributed systems depth across Crusoe Cloud’s Managed Platform Services organization. This is a floating technical leadership role — not tied to a single domain or product — operating at the highest level of individual contribution on the team. You’ll own performance engineering and operational excellence across all org domains, ensuring every layer of the stack is architected for 10x scale without accumulating technical debt or growing dependency on adjacent infrastructure teams. This is a full-time position.

Requirements

  • Deep, hands-on expertise designing and operating distributed systems at scale — sharding, replication, consensus, load balancing, and concurrency.
  • Proven track record of impact at the staff level and above.
  • Proficiency in Go or a modern compiled language (Go strongly preferred).
  • On-call experience on a customer-facing team is required.
  • Proven ability to influence technical decisions made by other teams.
  • Experience working directly with product and engineering leadership to scope ambiguous problems, plan incremental delivery, and tie technical decisions to business outcomes.
  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability — proactive, solutions-oriented, and willing to go wherever the team needs depth most.
  • Exemplary communication skills: provide the right level of context, stay concise, check for understanding, and keep leaders and stakeholders informed without being asked.

Nice To Haves

  • You benchmark, you profile, you fix — and you build the culture around doing it right.
  • You don’t just respond to incidents — you eliminate the conditions that cause them. You’ve built runbooks, tuned alerts, and reduced noise systematically.
  • You’ve resolved root causes of endemic problems that span org boundaries, and you have the credibility to do it again.
  • You don’t just mentor — you build systems that make other engineers better without your direct involvement. Force multiplication is your default mode.
  • Enthusiastic, optimistic, and genuine in celebrating others’ wins. You create an environment where people do their best work, maintain responsiveness that sets the team’s reputation, and lead by example.

Responsibilities

  • Own performance at the platform level. Establish consistent benchmarks across all domains, identify systemic bottlenecks before they become incidents, and drive solutions that scale.
  • Ensure every platform domain is architected for long-term scale — HA, disaster recovery, graceful degradation, and fault isolation built in from the start, not bolted on after the fact.
  • Set the standard for how the team operates at scale. Drive down on-call noise, automate anything done more than once, and build shared patterns and frameworks that let the entire team ship faster with less friction.
  • Float across platform domains as the team’s senior distributed systems authority. Provide oversight on existing, inflight, and planned systems. Contribute to technical decisions across Control Plane, Storage & State, Edge & Agents, Data Pipeline, and Async & Metering without needing to own any single one.
  • Serve as a senior technical voice in conversations with adjacent infrastructure teams — Compute, Managed Orchestration, Networking — ensuring platform-level decisions are made with full context.
  • Engage directly with product and engineering leadership in the earliest, most ambiguous stages of scoping. Help define quarterly roadmaps, surface incremental milestones, and ensure technical decisions are tied to business outcomes.
  • Actively coach senior engineers. Introduce systems and frameworks that uplevel the entire team without requiring your direct involvement. Identify early signs of burnout, create an environment where it’s safe to fail, and set the team’s reputation for being collaborative, responsive, and excellent.
