Senior/Staff Software Engineer, Data Engineering
About The Position
As a Senior or Staff Software Engineer on Voleon’s Data Engineering team, you will help scale and advance the company’s data operation. The work includes procuring and ingesting datasets, enabling data use in research and production, building data systems and tools, and collaborating with teams to facilitate data consumption. You will work with the team lead to design, scope, and deliver large-scale projects, contribute to the team’s technical roadmap, and help improve engineering productivity and delivery. The role also includes mentoring engineers and helping shape the company’s engineering culture. Voleon applies AI and machine learning techniques to finance and partners closely with machine learning researchers. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of relevant software engineering experience.
- Proven software design and implementation experience focused on correctness, robustness, efficiency, and scale.
- Experience working with large codebases and building modular, extensible, maintainable software.
- Expertise in a modern programming language such as Python, Go, Java, or C++.
- Hands-on development experience in a Linux/UNIX environment.
- Experience designing and implementing scalable services, highly available systems, and/or robust data infrastructure.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex ideas clearly and simply.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with data storage and management technologies such as PostgreSQL, Artifactory, Ceph, or Redis.
- Experience with cluster management and containerization technologies such as Kubernetes or Docker.
- Experience with job scheduling and orchestration technologies such as Airflow or Slurm.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate on software development, including designing and implementing data-processing technologies, sourcing and delivery systems and pipelines, and data-related tools and libraries.
- Support trading operations and research through reliable delivery of high-quality data.
- Build scalable, robust ingestion and distribution systems and fault-tolerant, production-critical pipelines.
- Lead complex projects from start to finish, including gathering requirements, designing software, reasoning about supporting or dependent technologies, and communicating with stakeholders, collaborators, and teammates.
- Provide technical guidance to engineering and research staff.
- Mentor and support teammates to help them grow and improve the team.
