About The Position

Hybron is an advanced manufacturing company focused on mass-producing lightweight composites using a proprietary, cost-effective, and rapid manufacturing process. Having recently secured $25M in seed funding and backed by the Northrop Grumman Technology Accelerator, Hybron is rapidly expanding to commercialize its technology. The company's current focus is on applying its process to components for artillery shells, solid rocket motors, gas turbine engines, and airframes. This role is a full-time, in-person position at the El Segundo pilot facility. As an early-stage deep tech startup, the role requires a self-starter who is adaptable and willing to take on diverse tasks, offering the opportunity to significantly influence the company's product development, strategy, and trajectory. Hybron is committed to investing in quality from the outset, and this role involves establishing the foundation of the quality function by leading the effort to create a quality management system and achieve AS9100 and ISO9001 certifications. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring all parts meet high-quality standards through a lean, rigorous, and effective quality program. The ideal candidate is comfortable with multiple responsibilities, views quality as an enabling function, and excels in cross-functional collaboration within engineering and product-focused companies.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a Quality Management System.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve ISO9001/ AS9100 certifications or experience owning significant portions of these programs such that full ownership is a reasonable expectation.
  • Experience with NDT for advanced materials, including CT, UT, tap testing, etc.
  • Non-conformance and MRB experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or science field (Composites, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials Science, Polymer Science, etc.).
  • Willingness to be hands-on, including with part-level testing and inspection.
  • Must be a US Person pursuant to the EAR and the ITAR definitions.
  • Able to work in-person at our facility in El Segundo.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a drive to deliver on ambitious schedules.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with fiber-reinforced polymer composites materials and manufacturing.
  • Supplier quality experience.
  • Experience with relevant QMS software and adjacent production tools (MES, ERP, etc…).
  • Experience operating relevant equipment such as metrology instruments, including laser scanners, CMMs, DSC, TGA, etc…
  • Experience with composite molding technologies such as compression or injection molding.
  • Six Sigma and/or Lean certification.
  • Experience with taking products from zero to one at a small company.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a Quality Management System.
  • Lead the effort to achieve AS9100 and ISO9001 certifications.
  • Ensure every part that leaves Hybron meets high quality standards.
  • Analyze composite defects (delamination, porosity, fiber/resin richness) and drive corrective action.
  • Be hands-on with part-level testing and inspection.
  • Qualify suppliers and enforce quality flowdowns.
  • Grow and lead a quality team as manufacturing scales.
  • Own Hybron’s quality program, systems, infrastructure, and roadmap.
  • Calibrate the team’s capabilities to increasingly rigorous standards and regulations.
