As Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer, you’ll join a dynamic team committed to strengthening the world’s energy systems to make them more resilient, efficient, and reliable. Based at our global headquarters in Houston, TX, the Senior Staff Mechanical serves as a recognized subject matter expert in the design and development of advanced MOCVD tooling. This role leads high-impact engineering programs and partners closely with leadership to solve complex technical challenges and advance MetOx’s next-generation manufacturing platforms. This engineer drives architecture, influences technical direction, and ensures delivery of robust, scalable equipment solutions aligned to process and manufacturing needs

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 10 years of engineering experience.
  • An advanced degree may be substituted for required experience on a year-for-year basis, depending on relevance and level.
  • Prior experience designing or building MOCVD, PVD, or similar semiconductor or thin-film deposition equipment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in vacuum systems, thermal systems, and precision mechanical design.
  • Applies systems-level thinking with strong business and operational awareness.
  • Influences technical and strategic decisions through expertise and judgment.
  • Navigates complexity and ambiguity while driving clear, actionable solutions.
  • Communicates effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Balances innovation with practical execution in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Drives architecture, design, and delivery of complex mechanical systems for MOCVD and related deposition platforms.
  • Anticipates future design challenges and develops scalable, high-performance solutions.
  • Guides design decisions across vacuum, thermal, and precision mechanical systems.
  • Translates process and materials requirements into robust, manufacturable tool designs.
  • Establishes and advances best practices in DFx (Design for Manufacturability, Assembly, Reliability).
  • Shapes development processes, design standards, and engineering best practices for tool building.
  • Influences technical direction for MOCVD platform evolution and equipment roadmap.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Drives innovation in tool design to reduce technical risk and accelerate deployment.
  • Leads multi-team engineering initiatives from concept through build, integration, and production.
  • Defines and manages project scope, timelines, and technical deliverables.
  • Identifies and mitigates technical risks across complex programs.
  • Partners with leadership to align engineering execution with company objectives.
  • Partners with Process, R&D, Manufacturing, and Equipment Engineering teams to ensure alignment between tool capability and process requirements.
  • Leads resolution of complex, cross-functional technical issues.
  • Communicates technical trade-offs, risks, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders.
  • Coaches and mentors engineers across teams and functions.
  • Elevates technical rigor and fosters a culture of engineering excellence.
  • Serves as a go-to expert for complex problem solving and design reviews.
  • Supports development of engineering talent and technical capability across the organization.
