Senior/Staff Infrastructure Security Engineer

AbridgeSan Francisco, CA
$214,200 - $252,000

About The Position

Abridge is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior or Staff Infrastructure Security Engineer to join their team as one of the first engineers on the Abridge Security team. This role involves building security from the ground up at the leading edge of AI in healthcare. The engineer will be a key technical leader, driving initiatives that shape the product, infrastructure, and engineering practices. Responsibilities include working cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to integrate security seamlessly, automate security capabilities and controls, design and implement high-scale infrastructure and data pipelines for the security organization, and mentor others to build secure-by-default systems at scale in the age of AI. The position requires deep technical expertise, a builder's mindset, and excellent communication skills to influence security culture across the organization. This is a greenfield opportunity to architect the way forward for security at Abridge, focusing on building 0 -> 1 and viewing modern security as a large-scale data and automation challenge.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience
  • 5+ years of infrastructure-as-code experience in a cloud-first organization
  • Seasoned perspective required to establish infrastructure standards for a founding team
  • Software or systems engineer who has spent years building in cloud-native environments (GCP or AWS)
  • View security as a platform service, not a gate
  • Track record of building tools that people actually enjoy using
  • Experience designing for high availability and scale
  • Understand how to handle "bursty" security log traffic and build resilient, distributed systems
  • Expert proficiency in at least one modern general-purpose language (Python is a plus)
  • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code
  • Demonstrated ability to drive large, cross-functional technical projects that impact security posture across the entire organization
  • Bias for action and a knack for navigating ambiguity
  • Understand how to weigh security risks against business velocity, choosing paved road solutions that empower internal partners and developers

Nice To Haves

  • Excited to be a founding member of a security team, setting the technical bar from day one and building paved road solutions that empower internal security partners and developers
  • Thrive in ambiguity and are excited about a greenfield environment
  • Believe that detection and governance are only as good as the infrastructure supporting them
  • Treat infrastructure as code and data as a first-class citizen
  • Enjoy moving between high-level architectural design and deep-dive coding/debugging
  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain self-service platforms that allow security teams to manage secrets, identity perimeters, and security guardrails at scale.
  • Write production-grade services to automate complex security workflows, turning manual interventions into reliable, code-driven processes.
  • Establish automated security guardrails and golden path modules that ensure our cloud resources are secure by default. Codify infrastructure including networking, IAM, Kubernetes, databases, streaming and pubsub platforms, storage, distribution, and more.
  • Design, build, and operate high-scale data pipelines to ingest, normalize, and enrich security telemetry for our detection and response functions.
  • Partner with platform and product engineering to integrate security requirements into the developer lifecycle without introducing friction.
  • Influence the selection of our security stack, evaluating build vs. buy for core security tooling, and establishing the engineering standards for a growing team.
