About The Position

The Senior Staff Engineer will perform engineering activities for project development and assist with the technical design and evaluation of utility-scale solar projects in Invenergy’s target markets throughout North America. The role includes estimating project energy production, assessing project resources, preparing and optimizing conceptual layouts, and supporting project development, financing, construction, and operations. The position follows Invenergy’s hybrid schedule: in the office Monday through Thursday and remotely on Fridays if work permits.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or related technical discipline, including Physics, Atmospheric Science, Earth Science, or Environmental Science.
2–4+ years of related experience in the renewable energy industry.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in an engineering or other relevant science discipline.
Familiarity with energy modeling software, including PVSyst and SAM.
Knowledge of meteorological data sources, MCP methods, and other statistical analysis.
Experience modeling energy project economics and familiarity with concepts such as NPV, IRR, and LCOE.
Ability to multitask and manage deliverables for multiple projects at a time.
Excellent verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated interest in renewable energy.
Desire to work in a dynamic environment alongside people with multiple interests and backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Use performance modeling software, including PVSyst and the System Advisor Model (SAM), to prepare energy production estimates.
Analyze available meteorological datasets and use Measure-Correlate-Predict (MCP) methods to assess project resource characteristics.
Prepare conceptual project layouts using CAD and GIS software and optimize layouts to maximize project value.
Interface with PV module, inverter, and racking original equipment manufacturers to obtain technical information and stay current on technology advancements and trends.
Conduct site visits to support site evaluation, suitability, and due diligence efforts.
Participate in landowner meetings, community outreach events, and monthly construction meetings.
Assist the development team with federal, state, county, and local permitting efforts.
Support the development and origination teams with the preparation of sales proposals.
Work with the structured finance team to respond to lender and independent engineer due diligence questions during project financing.
Interface with Project Management and Operations teams leading up to and through project commercial operations, ensuring timely and complete transfer of technical responsibilities.
Work with the project electrical engineering team to support electrical system design and compliance efforts.
