About The Position

The Senior Staff Engineer – Cloud Platform supports the design and creation of cloud-based products and services that meet Exelixis’s technology needs. The role helps define and design the cloud platform, including cloud automation tools and standards, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps tooling, and AWS account-provisioning automation. It also works with application support teams to redefine the interface between cloud platform products and application installation and configuration processes. The position provides technical leadership across cloud platform and enterprise integration initiatives, guiding complex projects from ideation through CI/CD, security scanning, and production monitoring. The engineer serves as a subject matter expert, leads incident response and root cause analysis for high-impact issues, documents infrastructure and operating procedures, and mentors junior engineers. The role has no supervisory responsibilities and requires minimal travel.

Requirements

At least 7 years of experience in cloud infrastructure in a highly available, production environment.
Significant hands-on experience developing integrations on an enterprise iPaaS platform.
Advanced knowledge of AWS, especially hosting-related services such as EC2, RDS, Systems Manager, and IAM.
Advanced knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools, especially Terraform.
Intermediate knowledge of cloud and infrastructure automation.
Relevant education and experience: a master's degree and 7 years of experience; a bachelor's degree and 9 years of related experience; an associate degree and 11 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Technical certification may be required.
Strong knowledge of integration architecture, APIs, event-driven patterns, data transformation, security, and error handling.

Nice To Haves

Experience working in a SOX- and FDA-regulated environment.
Experience with SAP Integration Suite; experience with other leading iPaaS platforms is acceptable.
Experience integrating enterprise applications with SAP S/4HANA and other SAP solutions, including APIs, events, and application-to-application integration patterns.
Experience designing and implementing EDI and B2B integrations with customers, suppliers, logistics providers, and other external partners.
A strong software engineering background and ability to design and build modern web applications and APIs.
Full-stack development experience with React.

Responsibilities

Develop technical solutions to complex problems using ingenuity and creativity.
Understand key business processes and business areas.
Guide the completion of major initiatives or programs and lead mid- to large-sized complex projects.
Lead end-to-end development processes, from ideation through CI/CD, security scanning, and production monitoring.
Identify and implement improvements to processes and development procedures.
Develop and apply complex, often long-term strategies for specific projects.
Represent the department as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects.
Translate overall direction and strategy and communicate across organizational levels and functions.
Work on strategic initiatives and coordinate with senior external personnel on significant technical matters.
Document infrastructure and work instructions for systems and applications, including architecture diagrams, runbooks, code-level commits, and READMEs.
Lead and own incident response and root cause analysis for high-impact issues.
Ensure completed work delivers long-term value through maintainability, performance, and observability.
Make decisions regarding access, permissions, and security controls across systems.
Serve as the subject matter expert for assigned capabilities, providing technical leadership and guidance.
Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering technical growth and best practices.
Design, architect, build, test, and support complex enterprise integrations using iPaaS technologies.
