Position Overview The Sr Staff Engineer in Renewable Engineering will perform engineering activities to support project development and assist with the technical design and evaluation of utility-scale solar projects in Invenergy’s target markets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or related technical discipline including but not limited to Physics and Atmospheric Science.
  • 2-4+ years of related experience in the renewable energy industry
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Open to occasional travel.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in an engineering or other relevant science discipline is a plus
  • Familiarity with resource and energy modeling software including PVsyst and SAM
  • Familiarity with site design tools including AutoCAD and GIS software
  • Knowledge of meteorological data sources, long term correlation methods, and other statistical analysis
  • Knowledge of energy project economics and familiarity with concepts such as NPV, IRR and LCOE
  • Ability to multi-task and manage deliverables for multiple projects at a time
  • Excellent verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills
  • Desire to work in a dynamic environment alongside people with multiple interests and backgrounds

Responsibilities

  • Screen prospective solar projects to identify potential risks and value
  • Define project constraints and buildable area considering existing infrastructure, topography, hydrology, and subsurface ground conditions
  • Prepare conceptual project layouts. Optimize layouts to maximize project value.
  • Analyze available meteorological datasets and apply long-term correlation to assess project resource characteristics
  • Estimate project annual energy production, energy uncertainty, energy probability values, and time-based production profiles
  • Conduct site visits to assess site suitability, participate in landowner meetings and community outreach events, and participate in monthly construction meetings.
  • Assist with federal, state, county, and local permitting efforts
  • Support the preparation of project sales proposals
  • Support project financing by responding to lender and independent engineer due diligence questions
  • Interface with the Project Management, Project Electrical Engineering, and Operations teams leading up to and through project commercial operations
