About The Position

Airbnb is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to join the Communication and Connectivity team within the Guest & Host organization. This role focuses on general backend architecture and the application of AI technologies. The Communication branch manages tools like Messaging, push notifications, and OS integrations, while the Connectivity branch connects hosts and integrates third-party partners. The team comprises engineers across various disciplines including web, native, backend, data, and machine learning.

Requirements

12+ years of relevant experience in a fast-paced, high-growth tech environment.
BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
Experience building, leading, and architecting full-stack products and systems at enterprise scale with significant impact.
Experience applying modern artificial intelligence technologies to products and development cycles.
Technical leadership experience, including leading project teams, setting technical direction and strategy, and working cross-functionally with Product and Data Science teams.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with examples of working across teams and organizations on technical initiatives.

Responsibilities

Partner closely with senior leaders across the broader technical organization as a senior technical individual contributor.
Contribute code as a hands-on Software Engineer.
Work closely with cross-functional teams including design, product marketing, and prototyping to envision guest-host communication experiences.
Envision and build a scalable foundation for reaching hosts through notifications.
Explore ways to enhance the partner integration platform using advanced AI technology.
Understand how technical decisions drive business outcomes and deliver frameworks and platforms that improve delivery with high quality.
Perform design and code reviews.
Advise and mentor other engineers at Airbnb.
