About The Position

Corning is seeking a Senior Staff Data Architect Engineer to lead enterprise data architecture supporting R&D and other large business domains. The role defines scalable data models, architecture standards, and data-product patterns that help teams bring complex data together consistently, reliably, and for reuse. The successful candidate will bring deep architecture and data-engineering experience across large data platforms, ingestion, modeling, transformation, governance, and enterprise-scale implementation. Direct R&D experience is helpful but not required; architecture experience in manufacturing, finance, pharmaceuticals, or another complex data domain is also relevant. The position leads the design and evolution of enterprise data architecture and establishes scalable patterns and standards across modern cloud or lakehouse platforms. It partners with engineering, product, analytics, governance, security, and business teams to turn complex needs into practical designs; embeds data quality, access control, privacy, compliance, metadata, and governance requirements; and provides technical leadership and mentorship. The role also evaluates emerging architecture approaches and communicates decisions and tradeoffs to technical and nontechnical stakeholders. The position does not support immigration sponsorship. Work from Sullivan Park is preferred, although highly qualified candidates may be considered for a remote arrangement. The salary range is $129,143–$177,572, assuming full-time status; starting pay depends on job-related factors including location, market demands, experience, training, and education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Seven or more years of relevant data and technical experience, including at least four years in a Data Architect, Senior Data Engineer, or comparable role focused on data design and architecture.
  • Demonstrated experience designing enterprise data models for analytics and operational reporting, including dimensional, normalized, data-vault, or comparable modeling approaches.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing or guiding end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines on cloud or modern data platforms.
  • Experience with Databricks or another large-scale cloud or lakehouse data platform.
  • Experience with dbt or a comparable data-transformation framework.
  • Strong SQL skills and proficiency in Python, Scala, or another data-engineering language.
  • Experience with Git, DevOps tooling, and CI/CD practices.
  • Ability to work in the United States without current or future immigration sponsorship and meet export-control eligibility requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Delta Lake, medallion architecture, data-product design, data lineage, metadata, or cataloging tools.
  • Experience with streaming or event-driven data architecture using Kafka, Kinesis, or comparable technologies.
  • Familiarity with data mesh, domain-oriented architecture, data fabric, semantic layers, or related modern architecture patterns.
  • Experience developing architecture in a large manufacturing, R&D, pharmaceutical, financial, or similarly complex data environment.
  • Experience working with distributed or international technical teams.
  • Ability to work from Sullivan Park; highly qualified candidates may be considered for a remote arrangement.
  • Direct R&D experience is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and evolution of enterprise data architecture, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models, canonical models, shared dimensions, and reusable data products.
  • Define scalable data-ingestion, transformation, storage, and serving patterns across modern cloud or lakehouse platforms.
  • Establish architecture standards for data products, pipelines, documentation, versioning, lineage, lifecycle management, and CI/CD-enabled reference implementations.
  • Partner with data engineers, product owners, analysts, governance teams, security teams, and business stakeholders to translate complex needs into practical data designs.
  • Embed data quality, access controls, PII handling, compliance, metadata, and governance requirements into models and pipelines.
  • Provide technical leadership, architecture guidance, and mentorship to data engineers and analysts.
  • Evaluate emerging architecture approaches, including lakehouse, data mesh, semantic-layer, streaming, and event-driven patterns.
  • Communicate architecture decisions, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Company-wide bonuses and long-term incentives.
  • 100% company-paid pension benefit with fixed contributions.
  • 401(k) matching contributions; total company contributions to retirement accounts can reach between 7% and 12% of pay, depending on age and years of service.
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Paid parental leave and family building support.
  • Fitness benefits.
  • Company-paid life insurance and disability benefits.
  • Disease management programs.
  • Paid time off.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
