About The Position

ServiceNow is seeking a Senior Staff Compiler Software Engineer to develop and maintain the server-side JavaScript engine at the heart of its platform. The runtime powers custom applications, workflows, and business logic, and helps applications move securely from development to production. The role focuses on compiler and runtime systems, including execution engines, memory management, and performance optimization at the systems level. The engineer will design and optimize execution engines and JIT/AOT compilation pipelines, build scalable and reusable software, and own work from requirements and design through implementation, automated testing, and delivery. The role also involves enabling customers to extend and customize functionality, mentoring colleagues, and sharing knowledge across teams. The position requires working with product owners and managing technically risky projects across teams and processes; it may include serving as a functional lead or technical owner.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience with Java or a similar object-oriented language.
  • At least 5+ years working on compiler, runtime, JIT/AOT systems, or language execution engines.
  • Experience integrating AI into software development, workflows, decision-making, or automation using AI-powered tools and technologies.
  • Strong experience with compiler/runtime systems, including execution engines, memory management, concurrency, JIT/AOT compilation, performance optimization, profiling, and debugging.
  • Advanced knowledge of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, design patterns, and systems-level performance and scale considerations.
  • Passion for JavaScript and the Web as a platform; experience with a modern UI framework such as Angular, React, or Vue.
  • Experience developing, troubleshooting, and optimizing relational databases.
  • Track record working across multiple technology stacks, including Cloud Dev, Platforms, Web Dev, Frameworks, and service-oriented architecture.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects with material technical risk across teams and processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with LLVM, language runtime development, or low-level systems engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize execution engines, JIT/AOT compilation pipelines, and memory management systems so customer applications run at scale.
  • Build clean, scalable, reusable code and enforce software engineering practices such as code reviews and unit testing.
  • Work with product owners to understand detailed requirements and own code through design, implementation, test automation, and product delivery.
  • Implement software that is simple to use and allows customers to extend and customize functionality.
  • Mentor colleagues and promote knowledge-sharing on low-level systems engineering, performance profiling, and optimization techniques.
  • Manage multiple projects with material technical risk across teams and processes; may serve as a functional lead or technical owner.

Benefits

  • Health plans, including flexible spending accounts.
  • 401(k) Plan with company match.
  • ESPP.
