About The Position

The Hartford currently has an in-house remote opportunity for a Senior Staff Attorney to litigate cases throughout Massachusetts. This position is an ideal fit for an Attorney with trial and litigation experience in premise liability, products liability, commercial and personal automobile accidents, construction site accidents, subrogation and property damage claims, who wishes to practice in a collegial firm with other experienced litigators. The Senior Staff Attorney will strive to deliver the best possible results in pending litigation. In this position, the attorney reports to the Staff Legal Managing Attorney. Our selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to independently handle cases.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school and license to practice in Massachusetts.
  • Member in good standing of Massachusetts Bar.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and time are essential.
  • Strong communication, computer and technological skills, and the ability to quickly leverage new software are required.

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years of tort litigation experience preferred.
  • Admission to Rhode Island or New Hampshire Bar is a plus.
  • Federal admission is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Independently handle lawsuits involving premise liability, products liability, commercial and personal automobile accidents, construction site accidents, subrogation and property damage claims.
  • Prepare pleadings, written discovery, reports, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies without supervision.
  • Conduct legal research and independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
  • Analyze substantive and procedural legal and factual issues.
  • Provide effective and timely communications, legal advice and other services to clients and claims customers on legal and factual issues in a technology driven environment.
  • Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures.
  • Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial hearings and alternative dispute resolutions.
  • Prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases.
  • Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain high level of professional expertise.
