About The Position

Stryker is seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Senior Staff Acoustic Hardware Engineer to help develop next-generation Smart Care products and reshape the Smart Hospital experience in critical care environments. The role leads the design, integration, and optimization of acoustic, audio, and hardware systems for handheld, battery-powered products, working with internal engineering teams, suppliers, and Joint Design Manufacturer (JDM) partners to deliver innovative, reliable, and manufacturable products. The engineer leads acoustic and audio hardware development throughout the product lifecycle, from concept and architecture through design, validation, production launch, sustaining, and end-of-life. The position also provides technical leadership to JDM engineering teams and drives hardware integration across audio, power, battery, sensor, touchscreen, processor, and memory subsystems. The role is onsite and involves 10% travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Acoustical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • At least 6 years of relevant product development experience.
  • Experience developing handheld, mobile, wireless, or battery-powered electronic products, including hardware development, integration, validation, and manufacturing support.
  • Expertise in audio and acoustic system architecture, design, integration, characterization, and optimization, including microphones, speakers, amplifiers, codecs, audio interfaces, and signal paths.
  • Hands-on experience with acoustic measurement, testing, tuning, debugging, and product-level audio optimization using audio and acoustic measurement equipment.
  • Hardware design experience across battery and charging technologies, power management, low-power design, embedded processors, memory, sensors, touchscreen technologies, and high- and low-speed digital interfaces.
  • Knowledge of ARM or x86 processor architectures and low-power memory architectures, with ability to design, review, bring up, and debug complex circuit boards and system-level hardware issues.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience reviewing and directing multi-layer PCB designs, including fine-pitch BGAs, sensitive analog/audio circuitry, high-speed signals, power distribution, signal integrity, EMI/EMC, thermal management, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Hands-on debugging and validation experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and acoustic/audio measurement equipment, including prototype bring-up, functional verification, system integration, root-cause analysis, and manufacturing support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead acoustic and audio hardware development across the full product lifecycle, from concept and architecture through design, validation, production launch, sustaining, and end-of-life.
  • Define, design, and optimize audio and acoustic architectures, including microphones, speakers, amplifiers, codecs, and associated audio signal paths.
  • Perform acoustic characterization, testing, tuning, and performance optimization at the component, subsystem, and product levels.
  • Drive hardware development and integration across audio, battery and charging, power management, sensors, touchscreen, processors, memory, and related subsystems.
  • Provide technical leadership to JDM engineering teams in board-level design, implementation, integration, debugging, schematic review, component selection, PCB layout, and design documentation.
  • Develop hardware and acoustic requirements, specifications, interface definitions, validation criteria, and verification and validation plans.
  • Lead prototype bring-up, system characterization, debugging, and root-cause analysis of acoustic, electrical, and system-level issues.
  • Characterize and optimize system performance across audio quality, power consumption, battery life, thermal performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
