About The Position

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for the accounting and financial data for NTBHA as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer and Controller. Work is performed under the direction of the Controller. The Senior Staff Accountant compiles and assists in preparing financial data and records, ensuring that all financial data is recorded in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and on a basis consistent with NTBHA’s policies and procedures. This position is classified as exempt and requires flexibility in scheduling to meet organizational needs, including adjusting work hours as necessary to ensure job responsibilities are completed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an AACSB-accredited school of business required.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, GASB, grant accounting, and financial reporting principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, work independently, and collaborate effectively within a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Proficiency using personal computers and standard office technology.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and complete tasks on time.
  • Independent judgment and the ability to work with little supervision are necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA Preferred but not required.
  • Experience with governmental, nonprofit, or grant-funded accounting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Assist with the monthly close process, monthly financial status reporting, and annual audit preparation.
  • Support organizational financial planning activities, including preparation of annual budgets for assigned departments and programs.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for annual and single audits.
  • Assist with site and desk audits by gathering required documentation and preparing responses for management review prior to submission.
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with internal controls, GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and GASB (Governmental Accounting Standards Board) standards.
  • Prepare and submit all required grant financial reports (monthly, quarterly, and annual) for Federal, State, and Local Mental Health grants and contracts in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Reconcile grant financial reports to the general ledger and research and resolve reconciling items and discrepancies.
  • Prepare reimbursement invoices for submission to State and Federal agencies.
  • Coordinate with program managers to ensure timely submission of all grant deliverables, including clinical performance reports, financial status reports, general ledger detail, and other required documentation.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, identify posting errors or omissions, and ensure accurate financial statement presentation.
  • Maintain organized accounting records, reports, and supporting documentation in accordance with record retention requirements.
  • Protect confidential financial and organizational information while supporting Finance Department initiatives and cross-functional operational needs.
  • Complete special projects and perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
