About The Position

The Missile Solutions Segment of L3Harris is seeking an experienced Senior Specialist, Structural Engineer to support the RS-25 rocket engine program. The position is based at a Propulsion Systems facility in either Canoga Park, California, or West Palm Beach, Florida. The engineer will perform structural analysis of RS-25 components in support of flight, testing, and fabrication. The role includes providing structural design guidance, defining analysis scope, performing detailed analyses for RS-25 component nonconformance reports (NCRs), and assessing whether products meet internal and customer structural requirements. The engineer will report analysis status and results at design and program reviews, prepare technical reports and other documentation, and contribute technical expertise to the team’s disposition of NCRs. Assigned responsibilities are expected to have a significant impact on program performance and capabilities. The stated schedule is 9/80: employees work nine days out of every 14, totaling 80 hours, with every other Friday off.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant structural engineering experience; alternatively, a graduate degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related structural engineering experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of prior related structural engineering experience.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Mechanical, Structures, or Aerospace Engineering.
High proficiency using ANSYS Finite Element Analysis software.
Proficiency in fracture mechanics analysis.
Experience with structural analysis of liquid rocket propulsion systems and components, including turbomachinery.

Responsibilities

Provide structural design guidance, scope analysis efforts, and perform detailed structural analyses for RS-25 component NCRs.
Assess products’ ability to satisfy internal structural requirements and requirements flowed down by the customer.
Report the status and results of analysis tasks at design and program reviews.
Prepare detailed technical reports documenting analysis activities, present results at program reviews, and prepare technical documentation.
Apply technical expertise to contribute to the team’s performance in dispositioning NCRs.
Complete assigned responsibilities in a manner that significantly impacts programs and improves overall performance and capabilities.
