About The Position

L3Harris is seeking a senior software engineer to lead a ground station software component. The role involves leading development of mission-critical software for satellite ground systems supporting command and control, telemetry processing, mission planning, automation, simulation, and operator tools. It combines hands-on software design, integration, testing, and performance optimization to deliver secure, reliable, and maintainable ground station capabilities for space missions and operational users. The position is located in Palm Bay, Florida, or Fort Wayne, Indiana, and follows a 9/80 schedule. The engineer collaborates across the full software lifecycle and supports architecture, interface definition, integration, verification, troubleshooting, and sustainment. The role includes designing and sustaining software services in AWS cloud environments, applying infrastructure automation, containerized applications, and cloud-native monitoring, and using AI-assisted engineering tools while validating generated output before integration. Travel is no more than 10%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience; or a graduate degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • Secret security clearance.
  • Space-to-ground experience in at least one of the following areas: Mission Planning and Scheduling (MPS), Tracking, Telemetry and Commanding (TT&C), Flight Dynamics/Spacecraft Navigation (FDS/SCN), or Mission Data Processing (MDP).
  • Experience developing in Python.
  • Experience across requirements, implementation, integration, verification, and sustainment.
  • Experience building or sustaining software in Linux and containerized development environments.
  • Experience with APIs, distributed systems, messaging or data flows, simulator or hardware integration, and automated testing.

Nice To Haves

  • CompTIA Security+ certification.
  • AWS Certified Developer certification.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement software for satellite ground systems, including command and control, telemetry and data processing, mission planning, automation, simulation, and operator-facing tools.
  • Design, deploy, and sustain secure, scalable software services in AWS cloud environments using infrastructure automation, containerized applications, and cloud-native monitoring practices.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools for coding, integration, test generation, debugging, documentation, and code review; validate AI-generated output for correctness, security, maintainability, and mission suitability before integration.
  • Develop secure, reliable, maintainable software using modern engineering and DevSecOps practices.
  • Integrate software with simulators, hardware interfaces, external services, databases, and mission support systems.
  • Write automated unit, integration, and system tests, including negative and failure-mode scenarios.
  • Support system architecture and interface definition; troubleshoot and resolve integration issues and tune performance.
  • Analyze and decompose requirements for program reviews such as Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews.
