About The Position

The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is seeking a Senior Specialist in Salary Administration to coordinate and administer salary administration and personnel processing activities for faculty, professional, classified, and part-time employees. This role serves as a subject matter expert in key salary administration functions, including payroll, leave, I-9 compliance, and personnel records management. The Senior Specialist will exercise independent judgment in addressing salary administration matters, provide operational support to the Assistant Director of Salary Administration, and offer consultative support to departments on part-time employment and related personnel processes. Collaboration with departments and campus partners is essential to ensure accurate processing in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field from an accredited college or university, along with two to three (2-3) years of experience in Human Resources or a related field; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the stated degree requirements, as follows: Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, along with four to five (4-5) years of experience in Human Resources or a related field; OR High school diploma or GED equivalent, along with six to seven (6-7) years of experience in Human Resources or a related field
  • Working knowledge of CSN, NSHE, and applicable federal and State of Nevada laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to employment and human resources administration.
  • Working knowledge of human resources principles and practices, including payroll, leave administration, compensation, talent acquisition, and employee records management.
  • Working knowledge of USCIS Form I-9 requirements, procedures, and practices.
  • Working knowledge of applicable leave-related laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Working knowledge of State of Nevada records retention policies and schedules.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects, establish timelines, and coordinate activities through completion.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make decisions in a variety of situations.
  • Ability to analyze reports and employment-related data and identify trends, discrepancies, or areas requiring attention.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and current software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of an organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with a Human Resources Information System (HRIS), preferably Workday.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience with payroll, leave administration, compensation, personnel processing, or related Human Resources functions.
  • Experience running, reviewing, and analyzing Human Resources or employment-related reports.
  • Experience providing consultative support and customer service to employees, supervisors, and departments.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and process personnel and salary administration activities for faculty, professional, classified, part-time professional, and wage employees.
  • Provide expertise and guidance on payroll, leave administration, I-9 processes, personnel file creation and maintenance, and related salary administration activities.
  • Serve as a backup to the Coordinator and Assistant Director of Salary Administration and exercise independent judgment in resolving salary administration and personnel processing matters.
  • Provide consultative support to departments regarding part-time employment, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, retention, and termination processes, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Generate, review, and analyze reports related to adjunct and hourly employment statuses and provide information and recommendations to support effective employment and recruitment practices.
  • Collaborate with department Chairs, Deans, Talent Acquisition, and other organizational partners to ensure part-time recruitment pools are utilized efficiently and strategically.
  • Coordinate multiple projects and activities through to completion while managing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees and student employees, as assigned.
  • Apply and interpret applicable institutional, NSHE, state, and federal policies, regulations, and procedures in the administration of personnel and salary administration processes.
