About The Position

Join the Modelling Initiative Team, in the Senior Specialist, Modelling position. In this role, you will address complex modelling challenges and contribute to the development and enhancement of data driven models that support informed decision making, working closely with CMHC’s internal clients. Your expertise in hands-on model development, interpreting results, applying rigorous quantitative thinking, and building strong client relationships will strengthen decision making and enhance the organization’s risk management framework. This is a temporary position with a duration of 12 months.

Requirements

  • A postgraduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as finance, mathematics, economics, statistics, data sciences, or actuarial sciences.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in modelling, validation or quantitative analytics.
  • A strong ability to work in a sophisticated technological environment, such as Azure and Databrick, utilizing various modelling techniques and programming languages, preferably Python and R.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous quantitative analysis using strong theoretical foundations (e.g., statistical modelling, econometrics, or financial mathematics), combined with critical thinking and sound judgment to resolve complex issues.
  • A solid understanding of Canada's financial sector and real estate markets.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Solid project management capabilities, with a track record of organizing priorities, meeting deadlines, and delivering high quality results.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with geospatial analysis, including geocoding or tools such as ArcGIS.
  • Experience with Rust or other high performance programming languages.
  • Professional designation such as CFA, FRM, or actuarial credentials.
  • Experience working in risk, finance, or economic.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, implement and refine statistical and machine learning models to support business decisions and analyses, including stress testing and capital adequacy analysis.
  • Apply advanced quantitative and theoretical approaches to enhance modelling capabilities within a highly technical team.
  • Produce model driven analysis and communicate results clearly to users and stakeholders.
  • Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, including model users, modelling experts, and other stakeholders, while providing mentorship and guidance to peers.
  • Support the migration of models from development to production environments.
  • Develop decks, tools, user guides and training materials to provide information and analytical supports to clients, users and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure models are appropriately documented and subject to effective controls, including performance monitoring, validation and change management protocols in accordance with CMHC's model risk policy and industry best practice.
