About The Position

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with experience in electro-mechanical design to join our team in the Canoga Park, CA, Sacramento, CA, or Huntsville, AL area. This position requires highly refined electro-mechanical and mechanical design skills that will be applied in designing and solving issues in the development and integration of high pressure/power and extreme temperature hardware such as chemical and electric propulsion systems along with propulsion components. Working independently at most times while seeking the guidance of other senior staff and subject matter experts when necessary, the candidate will support and produce the innovative designs and design changes necessary to be used in these high pressure/power, extreme environment applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior mechanical engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior mechanical engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior mechanical engineering experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5
  • Experience using Creo and NX CAD geometry-based modeling.
  • Experience using the Windchill product lifecycle management system.
  • Well-developed understanding of manufacturing processes (welding, brazing, machining, heat treating).
  • Strong mechanical engineering background with knowledge and understanding of fluid flow principles.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Well-developed component and system level knowledge of chemical and electric rocket propulsion hardware is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering models and drawings and perform tolerance studies.
  • Evaluate technical input from hardware suppliers and work with cross functional teams on producibility improvements and cost savings.
  • Participate in trade studies and preliminary designs using 3D CAD modeling software tools (Creo/NX).
  • Support independent peer review of work performed by others on an as-needed basis.
  • Work is guided by individual annual goals and objectives with minimal oversight or direction.
  • Interacts with manufacturing to ensure hardware is producible. Actively seeks out and communicates opportunities for manufacturability improvements in hardware designs and manufacturing processes.
  • Responsible for generation of engineering drawings with associated geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Actively leads team meetings to assure design content for new or modified engineering designs.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations for internal and external customers.
