About The Position

Our client is seeking a Senior Specialist, Mechanical Engineer to design and qualify precision mechanisms and electromechanical assemblies for critical missions. You will own hardware components from concept development and trade studies through detailed design, lab integration, and testing. This is a hands-on role in a Carlsbad lab, working with a multidisciplinary team throughout the product lifecycle. Lead assigned engineering work with limited supervision and communicate progress to internal teams, customers, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of relevant experience; a graduate degree and at least 4 years of relevant experience; or at least 10 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
• Active Top Secret or TS/SCI clearance. A clearance active within the last two years will be considered.
• Favorable polygraph.

Nice To Haves

• Experience designing precision mechanisms, mechatronic systems, or electronic module packaging, including thermal and structural considerations and size, weight, and power optimization.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as Creo and knowledge of ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Experience with additive manufacturing, part optimization, and design for manufacturing and assembly.
• Experience with actuators, custom gear trains, electro-optical systems, materials testing, or manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Create technical data packages, including part and assembly drawings.
• Prototype, integrate, test, and evaluate components, assemblies, and mechanical subsystems.
• Develop mechanical test plans and procedures.
• Participate in peer reviews, preliminary and critical design reviews, and product change discussions.
• Direct designers, technicians, and operators as part of the design team.
• Follow product development, configuration management, and purchasing processes.
• Support field tests and demonstrations as the mechanical engineering representative.
