About The Position

We are seeking an experienced real estate finance lawyer to join the Practical Law Real Estate team in the US. Practical Law is a leading online know-how service providing expert-created, practical maintained content to help legal professionals work smarter and advise with confidence. Practical Law is part of Thomson Reuters, one of the world’s most trusted providers of answers across law, tax, compliance, government and media. Practical Law editors are experienced legal professionals who sit at the intersection of law, technology and the development of AI-driven legal solutions, such as CoCounsel.

Requirements

Juris Doctor with a current license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction.
At least 8 years’ experience working as a commercial real estate finance lawyer in a law firm or in-house.
Extensive experience representing large institutional lenders (for securitized and mezzanine debt) in all aspects across transaction stages including origination, servicing, workout, and post-closing.
Experience specifically should include: Understanding and structuring transactions.
Leading on pre-closing due diligence.
Drafting and negotiating core and ancillary loan documents.
Developing and documenting workout strategies, whether forbearance, deed-in-lieu, loan sale, foreclosure, or otherwise.
Strong writing skills, and a passion for writing about legal practice accurately, concisely and in plain English.
A collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively independently and in teams.
Strong technical skills and the ability to effectively use various tools, including generative AI technologies, to enhance productivity and accuracy.
Adaptability and flexibility to work on diverse projects and tasks within the generative AI space as well as new and emerging technologies.
A curious mindset, including about the increasing intersection of AI and legal practice, adaptable and open to change.
Experience of using AI tools in legal work.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of laws and practices related to general commercial real estate transactions, such as commercial leasing and ownership topics.

Review and edit content written by others, whether by colleagues or external expert contributors.
Keep up to date with legal, practice and market developments to ensure content remains accurate, relevant and aligned with business objectives.
Use your legal expertise to support the development of customer-focused Thomson Reuters' AI-powered legal solutions.
Use your legal expertise and editorial skills to support the development and application of internal AI editorial tools.
Develop and maintain relationships with lawyers and industry groups to ensure content reflects current market practice.
Use your specialist legal knowledge to assist the wider Thomson Reuters team, working with product management, sales, marketing, and technology functions where necessary.
