About The Position

Practical Law US is looking for a Senior Specialist Legal Editor to work on resources and solutions for their Law Firm and Law Department subscribers. In this role, the Editor will develop commercial legal and compliance content of national and global significance for Practical Law’s online services. They will write and edit legal resources, including standard form documents, practice guidance notes, and checklists, adhering to Practical Law's writing style. The Editor will also assist in the editorial development of Practical Law or Thomson Reuters products, including Global and AI initiatives, and establish and maintain relationships with external law firm contributors. Additionally, they will write and edit content for Practical Law’s companion magazine, Practical Law The Journal, stay informed of current developments in commercial contracting and practice, and develop relationships with legal professionals to ensure content meets subscriber needs. The role also involves supporting AI initiatives, including training AI for product use and validating model performance.

Requirements

  • A minimum of eight years' experience working as a lawyer in a law firm or as in-house counsel and an understanding of the needs and priorities of law firm attorneys and in-house counsel.
  • Expertise in a variety of commercial transactional and regulatory matters, including one or more of the following: general contract principles and boilerplate, including the purchase, sale, and supply of goods and services; government contracting; multi-state consumer regulatory issues and compliance; manufacturing and supply chain compliance; franchise; distribution, logistics, warehousing, and reseller transactions; e-commerce transactions; and consulting, sales representative, and professional services arrangements.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to balance multiple tasks at once.
  • Skill and passion for writing, including: close attention to detail; impressive command of grammar, punctuation, and plain English; and the ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
  • The ability to collaborate with and support team members.

Responsibilities

  • Develop commercial legal and compliance content that is of national and global significance to be published as part of Practical Law’s online services.
  • Write and edit legal resources, including standard form documents, practice guidance notes and checklists in accordance with Practical Law writing style.
  • Assist in the editorial development of Practical Law or Thomson Reuters products, including Global and AI initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external law firm contributors.
  • Write and edit content for Practical Law’s companion magazine, Practical Law The Journal.
  • Stay informed of current developments and legal issues relating to commercial contracting and practice to ensure timely updates to existing content and the development of new content.
  • Develop relationships with lawyers in private practice, in-house counsel, and legal professional groups to ensure that the Commercial service’s content is topical and meets their needs.
  • Support AI initiatives, including training AI for use in products and validating model performance.
  • Support the product development and sales and marketing teams in their efforts to build and market Practical Law.
  • Conduct sales demonstrations and webinars on topics of interest for customers, as requested.
  • Respond to subscriber inquiries regarding Practical Law resources.
