About The Position

This position is responsible for executing various day-to-day tasks in the laboratory, including the processing of avian (poultry) blood or other tissues, poultry house and hatchery environmental samples; preparation of media and solutions according to written instructions; specimen preparation, log-in, and documentation of test results; equipment maintenance, calibration, and minor adjustments or repairs; maintenance of accurate supply inventories. Organizational and neat work skills, the ability to work independently or in a team, and effective communication with peers, supervisors, and customers are essential to this position. Critical skills also include the knowledge of and the ability to execute aseptic and sterilization techniques to keep materials, equipment, reagents, and facilities free from contamination with microscopic organisms. Testing procedures used in the Cobb-Vantress laboratory include serological assays (blood testing), microbiological tests (bacteria and virus work), and molecular-level (DNA and RNA) assays.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field
  • Two years plus of related experience
  • Keyboard skills
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office and various web-based programs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must use safe lifting techniques
  • Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation
