Senior Specialist, Data Insights Analyst

Goodwill Industries International, Inc.

About The Position

Goodwill Industries International (GII) is accelerating enterprise strategy to strengthen member performance, expand mission impact, and advance competitiveness across local markets. Data is central to this transformation, but value is only realized when data becomes clear, actionable insight that informs real decisions. The Senior Specialist, Strategic Insights is responsible for building and scaling a disciplined insights capability that identifies meaningful market signals, explains the “why” behind performance patterns, and translates findings into executive-ready narratives and decision support. This role supports strategic plan execution by surfacing emerging risks and opportunities, clarifying priority questions leaders must answer, and ensuring insights are integrated into leadership conversations and planning cycles. In addition, this role helps the Data COE manage inbound analytic questions by connecting themes across requests, reducing duplicative one-off work, and focusing deeper analysis on the most strategically important areas. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, brings structure to complex problems, and communicates insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Nonprofit Management, Social Sciences, Public Administration, or related field with a focus on data analytics—or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years in analytics, consulting, project management, or related roles.
  • Strong analytics and data manipulation skills, with the ability to move from raw data to clear, defensible insights.
  • Strong experience building presentations and visualizations (PowerPoint required; Power BI strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to create compelling data story arcs that translate analysis into clear implications and actions for leaders.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; able to manage multiple workstreams, priorities, and stakeholders effectively.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and connecting the dots across disparate questions, datasets, and perspectives.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to work effectively with technical and non‑technical partners and influence decision-making.
  • Curious, proactive, and improvement‑oriented; motivated by learning, iteration, and increasing strategic impact through data.

Nice To Haves

  • Power BI strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver recurring local and regional insights that surface meaningful trends, risks, and opportunities across markets.
  • Translate insights and questions raised into implications for the GII strategic plan, highlighting where focus, course correction, or deeper analysis is needed.
  • Frame analytical findings into clear “what / why / so what” narratives that directly support leadership decision-making and work with internal and external SME where need to answer those questions.
  • Partner with strategy and functional leaders to clarify priority questions that should inform planning, execution, and tradeoff discussions.
  • Produce executive-ready materials (briefs, slide decks, narratives) that support strategic conversations and alignment.
  • Maintain a forward-looking perspective by identifying emerging signals that may affect future performance or strategic assumptions.
  • Design and deliver ad hoc and recurring analyses that integrate multiple data sources into clear, defensible insights.
  • Manipulate and validate data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and appropriate interpretation prior to insight delivery.
  • Investigate performance drivers, anomalies, and patterns to move beyond descriptive reporting toward explanatory insight.
  • Apply strong analytical judgment when working with imperfect or incomplete data, clearly communicating limitations and assumptions.
  • Build clear, compelling visualizations and presentations that communicate insights to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Intake and synthesize incoming data questions across the Data COE, identifying common themes and underlying root questions.
  • Reduce fragmented, one-off analysis by connecting related requests into broader focus areas worthy of deeper exploration.
  • Recommend where to prioritize deep dives versus lighter analysis based on strategic importance and decision value.
  • Convene and facilitate cross-functional working sessions with subject matter experts to interpret insights and pressure-test conclusions.
  • Translate discussions into clear next steps, owners, and follow-on questions to ensure insights lead to action.
  • Document insights and learnings so analysis compounds over time rather than being repeated or rediscovered.
  • Support urgent leadership requests with rapid-turn analysis and clear synthesis, while ensuring work connects back to larger strategic themes.
  • Provide occasional support for presentations, briefings, or workshops where insight translation and narrative clarity are needed.
  • Participate in internal meetings and planning sessions; contribute to team coordination and knowledge sharing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
