About The Position

The Senior Spacecraft Embedded Software Engineer works on Varda’s Flight Software team to determine how its spacecraft behave and operate in orbit, and to build reliable software that enables those operations. The role covers all phases of software development, from requirements capture through testing and flight operational support. The engineer develops embedded software for the spacecraft, satellite bus, and reentry capsule, and owns design, testing, and integration. This position is on-site in El Segundo, California.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software.
At least 5 years of experience developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical software.
Experience developing and testing real-time embedded hardware/software systems.
Experience developing in C++, with a strong understanding of language concepts.
U.S. person status, as defined in the posting, to access export-controlled items.

Nice To Haves

Experience with safety-critical software, especially aerospace applications.
Experience with additional programming languages such as Python or Rust.
Strong understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, data structures, and computer networking.

Responsibilities

Develop reliable firmware to control operation of the spacecraft, satellite bus, and reentry capsule throughout the mission.
Own all aspects of software development, including design, testing, and integration.
Scope projects, including requirements capture and initial design trades for open-ended problems.
Write structured bare-metal, RTOS-based, or Linux-based software for embedded processors in C++.
Build highly reliable and available software systems.
Ensure system quality and performance through software testing, verification, and validation (V&V).
