About The Position

Spelman College is seeking a creative and driven Senior Sous Chef to support the leadership of culinary operations within a dynamic campus dining environment. This role will assist in overseeing kitchen operations, leading culinary team members, and delivering high-quality dining experiences for students, faculty, staff, and guests. The ideal candidate is passionate about hospitality, culinary innovation, and team development in a fast-paced collegiate setting. Working closely with the Executive Chef, the Senior Sous Chef will play a key role in menu development, food production, catering execution, and operational excellence while helping to foster an engaging and inclusive dining experience on campus.

Requirements

  • Progressive culinary leadership experience in high-volume foodservice, campus dining, hospitality, or catering operations
  • Experience with large-scale production, batch cooking, and complex foodservice environments strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of food trends, menu development, food cost management, and presentation standards
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and basic computer systems
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Passion for hospitality, mentorship, and creating exceptional dining experiences in a collegiate environment

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or certification in Culinary Arts preferred, or equivalent combination of education and culinary experience
  • Catering and special events experience preferred
  • ServSafe certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support the Executive Chef in overseeing daily culinary operations, including food preparation, production, and presentation
  • Assist with menu planning and the development of innovative, student-focused dining offerings
  • Supervise and mentor hourly culinary associates, promoting a positive and team-oriented kitchen culture
  • Ensure consistent execution of recipes, quality standards, food safety, and sanitation procedures
  • Assist in managing food and labor costs, inventory controls, ordering, and waste reduction initiatives
  • Lead and execute catering and special events across campus with a focus on quality and hospitality
  • Support the implementation of new culinary programs, seasonal promotions, and dining initiatives in partnership with culinary and marketing teams
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment that meets all regulatory and company standards
  • Collaborate with campus partners and dining leadership to enhance the overall student and guest experience
