About The Position

The AWS Energy & Utilities AI Products team is seeking a Senior Solutions Architect with deep domain expertise in grid planning, power flow analysis, and interconnection studies. This role involves using AI to transform how utilities plan the electric grid. You will lead technical engagements with utility planners, translate their workflows into AI product requirements, define how AI integrates with industry simulation tools, and develop technical content for the power systems community. This is a high-impact role in a small, collaborative team where your domain knowledge directly shapes how AI is applied to grid planning.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in power systems engineering, transmission planning, or grid interconnection studies
  • 3+ years of experience with power flow analysis, stability studies, or cost modeling
  • Experience using industry-standard power systems simulation software in a professional or research setting
  • Experience communicating technical concepts to both engineering and non-engineering audiences

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in electrical engineering or power systems engineering
  • Published research in power systems analysis, grid planning, or related fields
  • Professional Engineer (PE) qualification
  • Experience at an ISO/RTO, utility transmission planning group, or power systems software vendor
  • Experience defining product requirements or technical specifications for software products
  • Experience with AI/ML applications in power systems or grid operations

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for power systems engineering within the product team, translating utility customer workflows into product requirements and validation criteria
  • Lead customer engagements with transmission and distribution planners, demonstrating product capabilities and gathering technical feedback to shape the roadmap
  • Define integration requirements and test strategies for third-party power systems simulation tools used in grid planning and interconnection studies
  • Partner with applied scientists and software engineers to validate analytical methods, review model outputs, and ensure product accuracy meets utility-grade standards
  • Develop technical content (white papers, reference architectures, conference presentations) for the utility planning community
