Senior Solution Architect
About The Position
Blue Cross NC is seeking an experienced Senior Solution Architect to design and guide technology solutions across complex business and technology initiatives. The role partners with business and technology teams to develop solution architectures, provide technical guidance, and ensure solutions align with business needs, architecture standards, security requirements, and technology strategy. The architect develops solutions across modern technology environments, including cloud platforms, data and analytics, integrations, APIs, event-driven architectures, databases, and application development. The role also provides guidance throughout the SDLC, supports Agile delivery teams, and communicates recommendations and trade-offs to business and technical stakeholders. The position follows Blue Cross NC’s Flex approach. Depending on the nature of the work and distance from the Durham headquarters, the role may be Hybrid Flex, requiring at least two office days per week, or Remote Flex, with a few office visits each year. Onsite expectations will be discussed during the interview process. The salary range is $118,691.00 to $189,906.00 annually. Compensation may also include an annual incentive bonus, PTO, 401(k) with employer match, and health and wellness benefits.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or advanced degree where required; in lieu of a degree, 7+ years of experience in a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in a related field.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise architecture, solution design, software development methodologies, and SDLC practices.
- Experience designing and governing enterprise-scale data platforms, analytics solutions, and data governance capabilities.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies, modern integration patterns, APIs, and platform engineering practices.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, leadership, mentoring, and change management capabilities.
Nice To Haves
- Experience developing enterprise technology strategies and leading large-scale architecture initiatives.
- Deep expertise in two or more areas including Data & Analytics, Cloud, Software Development, Integration, Infrastructure, or Security Architecture.
- Experience evaluating emerging technologies and delivering AI-enabled business solutions.
Responsibilities
- Develop solution architectures, roadmaps, and technical designs aligned with enterprise standards and business and technology objectives.
- Serve as a senior architect for complex initiatives, partnering with business stakeholders, technology teams, vendors, and delivery teams to provide architectural guidance.
- Design scalable data architectures supporting data quality, governance, metadata management, analytics, compliance, and business requirements.
- Develop solutions across cloud platforms, data and analytics, integrations, APIs, event-driven architectures, databases, and application development.
- Apply and contribute to architectural standards, design patterns, governance processes, and security requirements to support scalable, resilient, and maintainable solutions.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and participate in proofs of concept to identify solutions that support business needs and technology modernization.
- Identify and address technical risks, architecture gaps, dependencies, and design considerations while ensuring performance, reliability, scalability, resiliency, and security.
- Provide architecture guidance throughout the SDLC, partner with Agile delivery teams, mentor engineers, and communicate architectural recommendations and trade-offs to business and technical stakeholders.
