About The Position

Eaton’s Engineering Services and Electrical Systems (EESS) division is currently seeking a motivated Senior Software Test Specialist to join its Embedded Devices and Control Systems Group. This position is based at Eaton’s Americas Innovation Center in Brossard, Québec, or Lévis, Québec, and offers hybrid work opportunities, as well as benefits starting on day one. The Senior Software Test Specialist supports our Digital Solutions Development team for utilities, which is responsible for the development, maintenance, and support of customer-specific software and solutions based on our substation automation product family.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience in software testing and software test techniques
  • 5 years of programming experience (Python, C++, C#, Java)
  • Experience with exploratory, black-box, performance, load, and regression testing
  • Experience developing test plans, procedures, and test scenarios
  • Experience with automated testing tools (such as Microsoft Test Manager, SmartBear, CPPUnit, JBehave, Cucumber, etc.)
  • Fluency in English and French (ability to work in both languages). Proficiency in both French and English is essential to communicate with colleagues, clients, and partners located in Québec or outside the province, as well as to understand technical documentation in our industry
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship now or in the future

Nice To Haves

  • Embedded software testing experience
  • ISTQB Certified Tester certification
  • Knowledge of basic network communication principles (TCP/UDP) and serial communication
  • Knowledge of electrical systems
  • Experience with Git, GitHub, and CI/CD

Responsibilities

  • Automating tests to minimize product delivery timelines
  • Maintaining tests to ensure their ongoing effectiveness
  • Investigating, analyzing and resolving issues occurring during automated testing
  • Implementing load testing using simulators or other commercially available tools
  • Occasionally participating in the development of simulators or other tools when developed internally
  • Using and maintaining existing test tools
  • Evaluating test tools available on the market in order to accelerate product development and delivery for our customers
  • Contributing to the creation of test plans
  • Participating in defining the testing strategy
  • Developing automated tests
  • Generating test reports
  • Providing recommendations regarding product release
  • Preparing test environments
  • Performing various types of testing including exploratory, white-box, load, acceptance, and security testing on Web, Windows, Linux, and embedded applications
  • Performing required manual tests
  • Planning, estimating, organizing, and executing testing activities or automated test development
  • Tracking tasks and progress against the plan
