About The Position

NVIDIA is seeking a Senior Software Safety Engineer to join its Halos team, which develops a full-stack safety system for the safe development and deployment of Physical AI. The role works with teams across NVIDIA on autonomous vehicle and robotics safety, including the DRIVE platform, automotive functional safety, safety of the intended functionality, robotics, humanoids, industrial safety, and other safety-critical applications. The engineer guides teams in specifying, building, implementing, and verifying safety requirements across the software stack, from drivers and acceleration libraries to AI-based technologies and end-to-end models. The role also supports integration of AI safety principles into NVIDIA’s Product Life Cycle, customer engagement, international standardization activities, system safety analyses, and certification efforts. The engineer collaborates with certification bodies, assessors, and regulators, and presents and defends safety arguments and supporting evidence.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years of demonstrated experience in Artificial Intelligence and software safety-related processes, methodologies, and tools.
  • Experience with AI safety methods and tools, such as adaptability testing, uncertainty evaluation, and out-of-distribution detection.
  • Familiarity with system software development and embedded platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience reviewing existing processes, identifying gaps, and suggesting improvements.
  • Experience producing safety plans, safety analysis reports, safety case documentation, and evidence packets for safety certification and audit activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong background in safety standards, including ISO PAS 8800, ISO/IEC TR 5469, ISO 21448, ISO 26262, and IEC 61508.
  • Background in system safety methodologies and practices, including HARA, FMEA, FTA, and STPA.
  • Hands-on experience with systems engineering methodologies, including requirements management, peer review, configuration management, agile requirements management, risk management, requirements verification and traceability, validation and verification, and architectural decomposition.
  • Hands-on experience in autonomous systems.
  • Success applying the V-Model to sophisticated AI-based engineering projects, ideally across all stages of the software development life cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Guide teams in specifying, building, implementing, and verifying safety requirements across the software stack, including drivers, acceleration libraries, and AI-based technologies.
  • Work with DRIVE platform and research teams, automotive functional safety and safety of the intended functionality groups, and teams in robotics, humanoids, industrial safety, and other safety-critical areas.
  • Help integrate AI safety process principles into NVIDIA’s Product Life Cycle.
  • Engage with customers and participate in international standardization activities related to AI safety.
  • Support system safety activities, including safety-requirement decomposition and system- and component-level analyses such as FTA, DFA, CCF, and FMEA.
  • Conduct architectural safety analysis across hardware and software boundaries.
  • Collaborate with external certification bodies, assessors, and regulators.
  • Present, defend, and justify safety arguments and evidence for safety certification reviews related to functionality and AI.
