This role is for a Senior Software Engineering Manager who will lead a team of software engineers through design, development, and documentation of software engineering plans of large complex systems. The manager will be responsible for attracting, engaging, and retaining a team of 10-15 software engineers to build critical software applications for a NO FAIL mission. Key responsibilities include performing hiring decisions, performance assessment, and personnel management for a team of technical staff members. The role also involves coordinating across engineering teams in the integration of large complex systems, utilizing automation and simulation tools, planning project-level work to meet schedule, cost, and performance goals, and managing program technical risks by evaluating requirements and design aspects. The manager will interact with a cross-functional team and serve as a liaison between functional discipline groups and internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading and mentoring a team of Software Engineers
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of management, program team members, and external stakeholders
  • Experience leading engineers through software development of applications
  • Project Management, Control Account Management (CAM), and earned value experience
  • Active and transferable Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of bidding and project/task estimation tools (e.g. SEER-SEM products)
  • Experience with processes such as peer review, configuration, and change management
  • Participating in root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Experience with flight deck, flight management system, or avionics software development
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering and modeling practices
  • Experience with Agile methodologies

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers through design, development and documentation of software engineering plans of large complex systems
