This role involves leading a team of software engineers through the design, development, and documentation of software engineering plans for large, complex systems. The position focuses on attracting, engaging, and retaining a team of 10-15 software engineers to build critical software applications for NO FAIL missions. The manager will perform hiring decisions, performance assessments, and personnel management for the technical staff. They will also coordinate across engineering teams for the integration of large complex systems, utilizing automation and simulation tools, and plan project-level work to meet schedule, cost, and performance goals. Additionally, the role involves managing program technical risks by evaluating requirements and design aspects, and interacting with a cross-functional team including Engineers, Engineering leaders, Program Managers, Business Developers, Finance, Quality, and Production. The manager will serve as a liaison between functional discipline groups and internal/external customers.

Requirements

Proven experience leading and mentoring a team of Software Engineers
Effective communication skills with all levels of management, program team members, and external stakeholders
Experience leading engineers through software development of applications
Project Management, Control Account Management (CAM), and earned value experience
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience.
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Active and existing security clearance required after day 1

Nice To Haves

Working knowledge of bidding and project/task estimation tools (e.g. SEER-SEM products)
Experience with processes such as peer review, configuration, and change management
Participating in root cause analysis and corrective actions
Experience with flight deck, flight management system, or avionics software development
Experience with model-based systems engineering and modeling practices
Experience with Agile methodologies

Responsibilities

Lead a team of software engineers through design, development and documentation of software engineering plans of large complex systems
