About The Position

Chalkboard is building the future of sports gaming, aiming to blur the line between watching and playing by turning real-money sports gaming into a social, immersive experience. The company is reimagining how sports fans engage with the games they love, driven by a team of sports-obsessed builders who value clarity, fairness, and helping fans turn insight into action. The role of Senior Software Engineer involves joining Chalkboard to help build and scale critical product and platform areas across engineering pods. These systems are crucial for the business, requiring scalability, reliability, and support for rapid growth. The engineer will partner with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact features, improve building processes, contribute to system design, drive execution, and take ownership of significant parts of the codebase.

Requirements

• ~5–8 years of software engineering experience
• Strong full-stack experience (Node.js, React, React Native preferred)
• Solid understanding of system design, databases, and scalable architectures
• Experience working with modern data stores (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and cloud platforms (e.g., GCP)
• Proven ability to deliver and maintain production systems
• Experience working in fast-paced, startup environments
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners

Nice To Haves

• Experience working on high-scale or transaction-heavy systems
• Background in payments, financial systems, or other mission-critical domains
• Experience in sports betting, gaming, or real-time consumer products
• Experience mentoring junior engineers

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and improve critical systems at Chalkboard, driving strong execution and contributing to engineering excellence.
• Build and scale product features and backend services that power core user experiences
• Contribute to system architecture with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance
• Write high-quality, maintainable code and uphold strong engineering standards
• Partner with Product and Design to deliver impactful features from concept to production
• Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and delivery
• Identify gaps in systems, processes, and code quality—and proactively address them
• Improve system performance, observability, and reliability
• Collaborate closely with engineers across pods to ship cohesive solutions
• Take ownership of projects and drive them through completion
• Contribute to a culture of accountability, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement
