About The Position

David Energy is seeking a skilled Senior Software Engineer to join their team. The company is building a software-native power plant that dispatches thousands of batteries in real-time and an automated trading desk for wholesale electricity management. This role involves developing and maintaining backend systems, including APIs, databases, and third-party integrations, while ensuring security, scalability, and reliability. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, make architectural decisions for future scale, and work closely with the Risk & Data organization. David Energy is focused on making a difference in the clean energy sector and encourages diverse applicants.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on backend engineering.
  • Demonstrated excellence in at least one back-end web framework (e.g., Flask, Django, Ruby on Rails, etc), cloud service (e.g. AWS, GCP), and RDBMS (e.g. PostgreSQL).
  • Experience designing systems that scale, building resilient, highly available services, and understanding the tradeoffs between building a sophisticated architecture that works forever and a simple architecture that works today.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Commitment to engaging constructively in brainstorming sessions and exchanging feedback on a wide range of ideas.
  • Curiosity about how to use all tools around you to make you a better engineer, including AI-based development tooling such as Cursor, Claude Code, or whatever else has come out since we wrote this job description!

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the energy industry is not required, but excitement about making a difference in the world is valued.
  • Flexibility on specific technologies used, as long as the candidate is a quick learner.
