Senior Software Engineer - Money Movement

NMI
$90,000 - $130,000Remote

About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Money Movement - Innovation team, you'll build the systems behind NMI's bank-to-bank payments: public APIs, internal tools, and third-party integrations, using Scala, TypeScript, and C#, with TDD and containerized microservices on AWS (Docker, Lambda, ECS). You'll work AI-first, using tools like Claude Code daily and helping the team sharpen how it uses them. We're looking for someone who digs into ambiguous, high-stakes problems and owns them end to end. About the team: The Innovation team sits at the center of NMI's money movement strategy. Formed through NMI's acquisition of Dwolla, we build and evolve the bank payment platform NMI's partners rely on, spanning open banking, push-to-card, account verification, and new payment rail integrations. We work asynchronously, communicate often, and expect blockers to be surfaced early. Psychological safety and continuous improvement are how we keep our high pace sustainable.

  • Experience with AI-first coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Copilot)
  • Experience mentoring and participating in code reviews
  • 4+ years developing applications with object-oriented or functional languages
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or related field), or 4+ years of additional equivalent experience

  • Design, build, and enhance features within FeeNavigator using PHP/Laravel and Vue
  • Develop efficient database queries and optimize MySQL performance as needed
  • Own the quality of your work end-to-end through developer-led testing — writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, and validating your own changes through to production
  • Improve the health of a large, established codebase by refactoring complex areas and decomposing high-complexity components into maintainable, well-structured code
  • Document critical business logic, application workflows, and key architectural decisions
  • Collaborate with Product Managers to refine requirements and contribute to technical solution design
