About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer as part of our Senior Consultant, Engineering & Technical Services career path to support federal student aid modernization efforts. This role focuses on building and integrating the enterprise engineering platform that powers the customer’s technology ecosystem, enabling thousands of developers to deliver modern cloud-native applications through standardized tooling, automation, and seamless integrations across GitLab, Jira, Datadog, Databricks, and Figma. Rather than building end-user applications, this position creates the shared platform capabilities that improve developer productivity and standardize software delivery across the organization's modernization initiatives. This is a fully remote role. At Fearless, this Senior Consultant collaborates with cross functional teams to align the technical vision, implementation, and quality of software systems across development, reliability, testing, and operations. This role will possess the skills to be able to bridge business objectives with technical execution in software development, infrastructure, security, and testing at an advanced application level of proficiency. The Sr. Consultant role will work on projects that allow them to ensure scalable, secure, and reliable solutions while mentoring engineers, fostering collaboration, and aligning stakeholders with product and project goals.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or enterprise integration roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or four (4) additional years of relevant professional experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Proven experience developing RESTful APIs and integrating enterprise SaaS platforms and third-party services.
  • Strong software engineering background with modern development practices, including version control, code reviews, and secure development practices.
  • Experience building scalable cloud-native applications and services in production environments.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps practices, and infrastructure automation supporting software delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience working within Agile development environments delivering iterative value to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience building secure, responsive, and accessible web applications for high-volume users and sensitive workflows.
  • Strong frontend and backend skills, including API integration, state management, performance optimization, and secure session handling.
  • Hands-on experience implementing end-to-end automated testing to reduce regressions and improve release confidence.
  • Proven ability to improve user workflows by reducing friction, error rates, and avoidable support contacts.
  • Able to ship features end-to-end in production environments with strong release discipline and operational awareness.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with GitLab, Jira, Confluence, Slack, Datadog, Databricks, or similar enterprise engineering tools.
  • Experience supporting federal digital modernization or large-scale platform engineering initiatives.

  • Build and enhance platform services that enable engineering teams to efficiently develop and deploy cloud-native applications.
  • Develop secure, scalable, and maintainable APIs, microservices, and integration components that power the enterprise engineering platform.
  • Collaborate with platform engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver integration capabilities aligned to modernization goals.
  • Implement automation and reusable services that standardize CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices across development teams.
  • Ensure integrations meet federal security standards, reliability targets, and performance requirements for high-volume production environments.
