Senior Software Engineer, Security

Linktree•Los Angeles, CA

About The Position

Linktree is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its security team, which protects creators and the digital presence they have built. This hands-on engineering role focuses on building systems that prevent and detect attacks, including account takeover, abusive content, data scraping, and excessive third-party access. The engineer will deliver improvements to authentication and authorization, secrets handling, abuse and fraud detection, and internal tools that help engineering teams build securely by default. The role works across TypeScript, Node.js, React, GraphQL, PostgreSQL or MySQL, and AWS. The engineer partners with Engineering, Product, and Trust & Safety to prioritize security controls while balancing risk reduction with creator experience. They will threat model systems with product squads, remediate vulnerabilities, improve detection and response, and raise security practices through reviews, pairing, documentation, and mentoring. The role also uses AI-assisted development tools while validating their output and accounting for potential risks. The position is based in Los Angeles or San Francisco and works hybrid from one of Linktree’s offices. Linktree also describes its broader work arrangements as fully remote or flex hybrid, with autonomy and flexibility in structuring workdays and asynchronous collaboration where possible. Some collaboration outside usual 9-to-5 hours may be needed because Linktree is a global company.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience, including meaningful experience in security, infrastructure, identity, or another high-consequence domain.
  • Strong full-stack skills across TypeScript, Node.js, React, GraphQL, PostgreSQL or MySQL, and AWS, with the ability to deliver fixes across layers.
  • Working knowledge of application security fundamentals, including the OWASP Top 10, authentication and authorization, secrets management, practical cryptography, and common attacks against consumer platforms.
  • Experience threat modeling a real system and turning findings into shipped work.
  • A track record of safely shipping changes to high-traffic, critical-path systems, including feature flags, staged rollouts, migrations, and backward compatibility.
  • Fluency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, Cursor, or Codex, including prompting, validating, and refining their output and recognizing associated risks.
  • Pragmatic judgment in balancing security and user experience, and confidence making trade-offs explicit with Product and Engineering.
  • Ability to influence engineers outside the immediate team without relying on mandate and to document decisions clearly.
  • Based in Los Angeles or San Francisco and able to work hybrid from an office.

  • Threat model new and existing systems with the teams responsible for them and turn findings into prioritized, shipped work.
  • Own internal tooling and paved paths that help engineers build securely by default.
  • Triage and remediate vulnerabilities identified through internal findings, bug bounty, and penetration tests, addressing underlying classes of problems.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product, and Trust & Safety to balance security controls against creator friction and user experience.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate reviews, migrations, and investigations, while evaluating their limitations and risks.
  • Raise security practices through code review, pairing, documentation, and mentoring.
  • Ship changes safely on high-traffic critical paths using approaches such as feature flags, staged rollouts, migrations, and backward compatibility.
