About The Position

Travelers is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help lead a multi-team initiative modernizing how engineers across the enterprise discover, provision, and govern infrastructure — replacing ticket-driven workflows with self-service platforms backed by automation and AI. The individual will complete advanced software engineering tasks end-to-end, including designing, developing, testing, debugging, documenting, monitoring, and implementing self-service capabilities for identity/access management, production-readiness governance, cloud account provisioning, and application portfolio management. The individual will also consult with engineering teams, platform owners, and enterprise stakeholders to define technical and process specifications, manage resources across multi-team initiatives, serve as a subject matter expert across the internal developer platform stack, and provide technical leadership across the team portfolio.

Requirements

  • Five years of programming/development experience.
  • Advanced delivery skills including the ability to determine the software design strategy and methodology to be used for efforts, use automated tests, analysis, and informed feedback loops to ensure the quality and production readiness of work before release, monitor the health of work efforts and that of adjacent systems.
  • Demonstrated track record of domain expertise including the ability to develop business partnerships and influence priorities by identifying solutions that are aligned with current business objective and closely follow industry trends relevant to domain, understanding how to apply them, and sharing knowledge with coworkers.
  • Strong problem solver who utilizes data and proofs of concepts to find creative solutions to difficult problems, reflects on solutions, measuring their impact, and uses that information to ideate and optimize. Also adept at making decisions that involve a significant number of factors with broad implications.
  • Strong communicator who possesses the ability to describe technology concepts in ways the business can understand, document initiatives in a concise and clear manner, collaborate effectively with teammates and others regardless of role, quickly extract core issues from discussions and meetings, give and receive constructive feedback, offer help when asked, and ensure everyone has a chance to share their thoughts and are heard; an attentive and empathetic listener.
  • Advanced leadership skills with the ability to take action even when there is no clear owner, inspire and motivate others, and be effective at influencing team members.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in education and/or work experience.
  • 6 additional years of software engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical execution of multiple small, lean engineering teams building self-service automation for identity/access, governance, cloud provisioning, and application management.
  • Set technical direction and patterns across teams, and build production-grade automation on the internal developer platform.
  • Mentor engineers — including rotational and early-career contributors — in the tools, patterns, and AI capabilities driving modernization.
  • Engage senior engineering and platform leadership to align strategic direction; influence enterprise-wide adoption of self-service practices.
  • Perform advanced design, configuration, and development for high-visibility, complex initiatives.
  • Direct solutions to loosely scoped problems aligned with team objectives.
  • Deliver work both independently and by leading other engineers across multiple lines of business.
  • Investigate and resolve critical, high-impact issues affecting platform reliability and automation pipelines.
  • Apply current industry practices — including AI agents, infrastructure-as-code, GitOps, and platform engineering — to design effective solutions.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment that supports cross-functional and rotational contributors.
  • Continually expand expertise in self-service platform design, AI development tools, and enterprise-scale automation.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
