About The Position

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our NYC-based engineering team building and supporting our GalaxyOne institutional platform, with a primary focus on reporting, statements, and login/entitlements management. This role requires someone who can own outcomes end-to-end - from aligning with stakeholders on requirements through to delivery and production support - while navigating cross-functional relationships across engineering, product, operations, and the business.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Solid computer science fundamentals and a proven track record in software design and development.
  • Expert-level engineering skills in Java, Scala, Kotlin, C#, or similar (we primarily work in Java).
  • Strong database and SQL knowledge.
  • In-depth knowledge of object-oriented programming fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, and drive projects to completion with minimal oversight.
  • A strong communicator who builds trust with both technical and non-technical partners - someone comfortable presenting trade-offs, pushing back when needed, and keeping stakeholders aligned.
  • Experience collaborating across teams and functions as part of the SDLC.
  • Familiarity with the full development lifecycle of a commercial system, including requirements definition, agile planning, production deployment, and production support.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with AI-driven development tooling.
  • Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging system experience.
  • Kubernetes, Docker, or other containerization technologies.
  • AWS, Azure, or GCP experience.
  • Experience working in finance or fintech.
  • Technical understanding of crypto and digital assets.
  • Familiarity with asynchronous and reactive software patterns.
  • Familiarity with domain-driven design and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with reactive frameworks/toolkits such as Vert.x.
  • Understanding of the Java threading model and concurrency-related concepts.
  • Experience with Databricks.

Responsibilities

  • Design and architect systems, services, and features on a cloud-native platform to increase automation and ensure the integrity and security of our systems.
  • Work directly with stakeholders across product, operations, compliance, and the business to understand needs, define requirements, and drive delivery.
  • Enhance and continue to build out our reporting, statements, and login/entitlements management systems and processes.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with other engineering teams to support broader platform functionality such as trading, lending, staking, and settlement.
  • Take ownership of projects from scoping through production, managing timelines, dependencies, and communication along the way.
  • Embrace and champion the thoughtful adoption of AI to improve team performance and business outcomes.
  • Leverage AI tools (e.g., generative AI, automation platforms, data copilots) to improve productivity, decision-making, and output quality in your day-to-day work.
