About The Position

Airwallex is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Infrastructure AI team. The role focuses on designing and operating goal-oriented AI agents that automate SRE, DevOps, and DBA workflows across Airwallex’s global infrastructure. The position is based in the Seattle office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The engineer will build agents on Airwallex’s internal agent platform and design reliable architectures with planning, reasoning, tool use, error recovery, safety guardrails, auditability, and human escalation. The role also involves integrating agents with infrastructure and operational systems, defining evaluation frameworks, collaborating with infrastructure teams to find valuable automation opportunities, and contributing to the technical vision for AI-driven infrastructure operations. The Infrastructure & Productivity team builds platforms and systems used by Airwallex’s global engineering organization, including Kubernetes, Kafka, CI/CD pipelines, and observability systems. Its mission is to make engineering work faster, safer, and more effective while maintaining reliability and security, optimizing cloud costs, automating support, and promoting standardization without slowing product delivery.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong proficiency in a backend language such as Python, Go, Java, or Kotlin.
  • Practical experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Aliyun; Kubernetes; Terraform; and CI/CD systems.
  • Strong system design skills and ability to architect reliable, safe, and scalable systems that interact with production infrastructure.
  • Experience building agentic AI systems that autonomously plan, reason, and execute multi-step tasks using large language models, including agent-loop design, tool-use orchestration, and agent state or memory.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a record of effective work across cross-functional teams in a global environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with agent orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, or custom agent frameworks, and LLM APIs such as OpenAI or Anthropic.
  • Experience with observability and monitoring systems such as Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, or the ELK stack.
  • Experience with database administration or automation, including schema migrations, query optimization, and backup and recovery.
  • Understanding of SRE practices, including incident response, runbooks, postmortems, and SLOs/SLIs.
  • A forward-thinking perspective on agent reliability, safety, evaluation, and the development of increasingly autonomous infrastructure systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build goal-oriented infrastructure AI agents to automate SRE, DevOps, and DBA workflows, including incident investigation and remediation, infrastructure provisioning, deployment orchestration, database operations, and capacity management.
  • Design reliable agent architectures with planning, reasoning, tool use, error recovery, safety guardrails, auditability, and human-in-the-loop escalation.
  • Integrate agents with Kubernetes, Terraform, cloud APIs across AWS, GCP, and Aliyun, monitoring and observability platforms, databases, and CI/CD pipelines through well-designed tool interfaces.
  • Define and improve frameworks for evaluating agent effectiveness, including task completion, accuracy, time to resolution, and escalation rates.
  • Partner with SRE, DevOps, and platform engineering teams to identify valuable automation workflows and turn operational pain points into agent capabilities.
  • Help shape Airwallex’s technical vision for AI-driven infrastructure operations, including agent architecture, reliability, safety, and evaluation.
