About The Position

Our client is a Stripe-native payment recovery platform for B2C subscription businesses. They help companies recover failed payments and reduce involuntary churn on a performance basis: no recovery, no fee. They have a working product, paying customers, and a growing business. They're now expanding our engineering team to build the infrastructure behind our next stage of growth. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is backend-leaning but comfortable across the full stack. The role is approximately 80% backend / 20% frontend. You'll work on commercially important systems including: Payment and billing integrations, Data models and ingestion pipelines, Retry, orchestration, and reconciliation systems, Payment recovery infrastructure, Machine-learning experiments and performance analysis, Email and push notification workflows, Internal tools and customer-facing product. You'll own projects end to end — from understanding the problem and designing the solution to implementation and production. This isn't a role where you'll receive detailed specifications for every task. We need someone who can take a business or technical objective, make good architectural decisions, and ship a reliable solution independently.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Strong backend engineering skills with full-stack capability
  • Experience independently owning and shipping production systems
  • Strong system design and technical judgment
  • Ability to work effectively with APIs, databases, integrations, and production systems
  • Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information
  • Strong English communication skills
  • Experience using AI effectively in your development workflow
  • Python / Next.js / React / PostgreSQL
  • Payments, fintech, billing, or subscription infrastructure
  • Third-party integrations
  • Data ingestion or reconciliation systems
  • Early-stage startup experience
  • Approximately 4–6 hours of overlap with the US team, particularly US Pacific/Central time.

Nice To Haves

  • AI heavily in development and expect you to as well.
  • Use tools such as Cursor, Codex, Claude Code, or similar to accelerate implementation.
  • Understand and architect the problem before coding
  • Review and validate AI-generated code
  • Explain your technical decisions
  • Understand how your code fits into the broader system
  • Anticipate failure modes and edge cases

Responsibilities

  • Own projects end to end — from understanding the problem and designing the solution to implementation and production.
  • Take a business or technical objective, make good architectural decisions, and ship a reliable solution independently.
  • Work on commercially important systems including: Payment and billing integrations, Data models and ingestion pipelines, Retry, orchestration, and reconciliation systems, Payment recovery infrastructure, Machine-learning experiments and performance analysis, Email and push notification workflows, Internal tools and customer-facing product.
