About The Position

Copeland is seeking a Senior Software Engineer interested in greenfield development in the IoT space. The role designs and implements cloud-native solutions intended for 24/7 availability, using infrastructure as code and Azure serverless computing to support efficient, scalable, high-performing, and cost-effective deployments. It builds TypeScript applications with React on the frontend and NestJS on the backend, develops automated unit and behavioral tests, and implements production code while applying security practices and rollback mechanisms. The position also develops APIs and protocols integrating websites, third-party partners, mobile applications, and IoT devices. The engineer contributes to product support, including independent on-call participation, and collaborates with business and product teams to translate requirements into designs and communicate complex technical topics. The position requires travel within the United States and internationally, up to one week per quarter, as arranged in advance. Copeland offers a flexible core-hours schedule, with employees working during 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. in the team headquarters’ time zone.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of software development experience, with exposure to multiple programming languages.
• Experience developing and deploying software on a major cloud-native platform such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Comfort using automation for software development, testing, and deployment.
• Enjoys paired programming and understands when it is useful.
• Comfortable translating business requirements into a design.
• Has shipped at least one commercially used software product.
• Can participate independently in product support, such as on-call work.
• Understands agile development well enough to teach its principles.
• Can effectively explain and communicate technically complicated and abstract topics to business and product teams.
• Ability to travel, company-paid, to St. Louis or Atlanta for up to one week per quarter.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship is not provided.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement cloud-native solutions with 24/7 availability.
