About The Position

The Senior Software Engineer is a core individual contributor on one of three Scrum teams in Gartner Peer Community’s product organization within Digital Product Technology. Gartner Peer Community is a platform where verified enterprise leaders connect to share knowledge, ask questions, and provide peer feedback. The role owns feature delivery end-to-end, contributes to technical design, and helps improve the team’s quality and capabilities.

The engineer designs and builds features across web and backend platforms, with a focus on reliability, performance, and maintainability. They collaborate with Product, Design, DevOps, principal and lead engineers, and engineering managers to refine requirements, define technical work, deliver features, and maintain cloud infrastructure. The role also contributes to production health, team development, and continuous improvement of engineering tools and processes.

The position is based near Gartner’s Irving, Texas or Stamford, Connecticut Centers of Excellence. Gartner describes its work environment as hybrid, with flexibility to work from home and collaborate in its offices.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience building production systems, including substantial end-to-end system design and delivery experience.
• Strong proficiency in Go (Golang) for backend development and React/Next.js for UI development, with hands-on full-stack engineering experience.
• Significant experience with AWS cloud services and infrastructure-as-code using Terraform.
• Solid understanding of software design principles, testing practices, and delivery fundamentals.
• Experience contributing to production systems with observability, incident response, and on-call practices.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills with teammates, product managers, and stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science or a related field.
• Able to work independently or proactively as part of a team in a fast-paced Agile/Scrum environment.
• Takes responsibility for successful solution delivery.
• Strong desire to improve skills in tools and technologies.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience in distributed systems, high-traffic services, or data-intensive platforms.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum delivery models.

Responsibilities

• Design and build high-quality features end-to-end across web and backend platforms, focusing on reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Own stories and epics from refinement through delivery, clarifying scope and acceptance criteria.
• Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to architecture and implementation decisions.
• Write tested and documented code and maintain a high standard in code review.
• Contribute to observability, alerting, and on-call practices to maintain healthy production systems.
• Support other engineers by sharing knowledge and helping them grow.
• Collaborate with Product and Design to refine requirements and identify technical constraints early.
• Work with principal and lead software engineers and engineering managers to define technical tasks for user stories and support effective refinement and delivery.
• Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt and improve engineering tools and processes.
• Work with DevOps to design, provision, and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure using Terraform and other infrastructure-as-code tools.
