About The Position

We build and run the software behind CMG's marketing platform, including consumer websites, loan-officer microsites, rate-lock marketing products, lead intake and routing, review and testimonial syndication, email signatures, and background services that move loan data between our loan origination system, Salesforce, and approximately fifteen marketing SaaS vendors. The technology stack includes seven .NET monorepos, with the newest platforms being .NET 9 APIs with React frontends and containerized deploys, while older platforms are .NET Framework apps undergoing consolidation and retirement. A significant amount of SQL Server is utilized across the platform. The team is actively modernizing, having recently consolidated into GitHub monorepos with GitHub Actions CI/CD, launched a modern .NET 9 background-job platform, initiated a program to move applications off a shared database onto internal APIs, and rebuilt a major legacy product on a current stack. This role is crucial for continuing this modernization effort.

Requirements

  • Deep C#/.NET experience across generations, including .NET 8/9, .NET Framework, Azure Functions, and Hangfire jobs.
  • Ability to read unfamiliar legacy code and improve it.
  • Strong SQL Server skills: T-SQL (procedures, views, triggers, window functions), query and index tuning, and disciplined production data changes.
  • Experience with various data access methods: EF Core, EF6, Dapper, and raw ADO.NET.
  • Evidence-first debugging: reproduce issues before fixing, differentiate code defects from config, data, or infrastructure problems, and document the process.
  • Integration engineering experience: REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth/JWT, retries, idempotency, file feeds, and working with vendor APIs.
  • Testing habits: xUnit/NUnit with mocking, regression tests, and experience bootstrapping test projects.
  • CI/CD and Azure operations: GitHub Actions, Docker to App Service, Azure Functions, Application Insights, deploy sequencing, feature flags, and release promotion.
  • Refactoring judgment: blast-radius analysis, incremental strangler-style migrations, and parity testing with rollback.
  • Clear technical writing skills for requirements, PRs, runbooks, and rules files.
  • Proactivity in identifying and creating tickets for improvements.
  • Fluency with agentic development, including getting reliable output from coding agents and identifying confidently incorrect output.

Nice To Haves

  • Mortgage or fintech domain experience (rate locks, LOS data, NMLS compliance).
  • Frontend experience with React/TypeScript, jQuery, Knockout, and webpack.
  • Terraform, Okta, or headless CMS (Kentico Kontent) experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ship fast against structured requirements, with a focus on rapid deployment from accepted requirement to production.
  • Own systems end-to-end, from requirements review through production support, including tracing and fixing issues across application code, SQL Server, vendor APIs, and Azure infrastructure.
  • Make architectural decisions about the systems being run.
  • Modernize existing platforms by extracting services, bringing schema under source control, replacing shared-database coupling with internal APIs, retiring end-of-life frameworks, and adding missing test suites.
  • Collaborate with product teams to clarify requirements and ensure testable acceptance criteria.
  • Utilize agentic development tools (like Claude Code) for code generation and provide judgment at validation gates.
  • Perform refactoring with blast-radius analysis, incremental migrations, and rollback plans.
  • Write clear technical documentation including requirements clarification, PR narratives, runbooks, and rules files.
  • Proactively identify and address issues such as missing indexes, silent failure paths, or security vulnerabilities by filing tickets.

Benefits

  • Compensation range provided upon request.
