About The Position

Cloudflare for SaaS enables SaaS providers to offer their services on customer-branded domains instead of their own. This product manages customer domains, automating tasks like onboarding, ownership validation, certificate issuance and renewal, and secure configuration deployment across Cloudflare's global network. The team develops APIs and control-plane systems used by major platforms, aiming to support tens of millions of customer domains with enhanced reliability, faster APIs, simplified large-scale configuration, and broader product integration. This role involves customer-facing product development alongside complex challenges in distributed systems, data modeling, state consistency, observability, and operational reliability. The Software Engineer will design, build, and operate the services for Cloudflare for SaaS, focusing on backend services and RESTful APIs in Go, modernizing legacy control-plane workflows, and improving production system reliability and scalability. Collaboration with product managers and engineers, technical specification writing, code reviews, service instrumentation, and operational issue diagnosis and resolution are key aspects of this role.

  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across applications, data stores, and production environments.
  • Proficiency with modern Unix/Linux development and runtime environments.
  • A track record of delivering well-tested, reliable code and taking ownership of it in production.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical decisions and tradeoffs.

Nice To Haves

  • Evolve the control plane to support tens of millions of customer domains without sacrificing correctness, availability, or API performance.
  • Improve certificate and domain lifecycle workflows, including onboarding, validation, renewal, migration, and safe deletion.
  • Model ownership and shared state carefully so changes remain consistent across distributed services and configuration stores.
  • Build useful observability, alerts, and operational procedures, and participate in debugging and incident response.
