Senior Software Engineer
About The Position
PayPal, Inc. seeks Senior Software Engineer in Austin, TX. This role involves designing, developing, and deploying software data products and platforms for PayPal. The engineer will own key software data pipeline components, services, and offerings from ideation to production deployment. Responsibilities include identifying business requirements, designing large-scale software solution architectures, and implementing tasks within the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) with guidance from experienced staff. The role also entails software experimentation, automation, simulation, and contributing to performance tuning, improvements, and load testing. Collaboration with peers, managers, and project leads is expected for task understanding and solution review. Adherence to internal standards, processes, and technical decision-making is crucial. Participation in software code and design reviews is also a key part of the role. Partial telecommuting is permitted from a commutable distance.
Requirements
- Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a closely related field plus two years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
- OR Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a closely related field plus five years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
- Experience in Java programming (2 years)
- Experience in SQL (e.g.. MySQL, Postgres) and Query Optimizations (2 years)
- Experience in Apache Spark for distributed data processing (2 years)
- Experience with Hadoop ecosystem components (HDFS, MapReduce, Hive, etc.) (2 years)
- Hands-on experience with Python for data engineering and scripting (2 years)
- Experience working in AWS cloud environments (e.g., S3, EMR, Athena, Lambda) (2 years)
- Experience with GCP data services (e.g., Big Query, Dataproc) (2 years)
- Experience using Apache Airflow for workflow orchestration (2 years)
- Experience with Snowflake for cloud data warehousing (2 years)
- Familiarity with CI/CD deployment pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions) (2 years)
- Experience in Scala Programming (2 years)
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and deploy software data products and platform for PayPal.

- Identify appropriate business requirements and help design large scale software solution architecture.
- Implement tasks within the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), receiving structure and oversight from more experienced staff.

- Collaborate with peers, manager, and project lead to gain understanding of tasks and review software solutions.
- Understand internal standards and processes and apply them to make technical decisions and adhere to standard procedures for software development.
