Sr. Software Engineer - DevEx
About The Position
VGS is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Agentic API, a secure backend layer that enables trusted AI agents to initiate purchases under user-approved mandates, retrieve scoped payment credentials, and complete transactions without exposing raw card data. The role develops payment infrastructure at the intersection of AI, card networks, cryptography, and secure money movement, with a focus on clean, reliable APIs for emerging commerce workflows. The engineer will build Python 3.13+ and FastAPI services, shape core APIs and domain models, and help ensure security, reliability, scalability, performance, and developer experience in production-critical payment systems. The role also includes observability, Kubernetes-based provisioning workflows, rigorous testing and production validation, technical design and delivery, AI-assisted engineering practices, and collaboration across internal teams and external card-network partners.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of experience delivering and maintaining complex distributed systems in production environments.
- Advanced proficiency with AWS ecosystems and Terraform for building reproducible environments.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (EKS), Docker, and GitOps workflows such as Flux, Argo, or GitHub Actions.
- Strong Python coding skills for infrastructure automation and operational tools.
- Experience implementing Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry at scale.
- Solid understanding of cloud security, API gateways, load balancing, and network isolation.
- Treat security as a fundamental engineering constraint.
Nice To Haves
- Direct experience in fintech, payments, card networks, tokenization, identity, or secure infrastructure.
- Experience designing mandate, credential-provisioning, authentication, attestation, or cryptogram-based workflows.
- Experience applying AI developer tools or agentic automation to day-to-day engineering workflows.
Responsibilities
- Design and build Python 3.13+ and FastAPI services for secure, production-critical agentic payment flows.
- Design APIs and domain models for card enrollment, agentic token provisioning, purchase intents, mandates, device attestation, OTP flows, confirmations, and cryptogram retrieval.
- Implement security, scalability, availability, performance, and developer-experience practices for sensitive payment and cryptographic workflows.
- Apply consistent error handling, traceability, structured logging, metrics, and distributed tracing using OpenTelemetry and Prometheus.
- Design extensible provisioning workflows using Kubernetes APIs and Custom Resource Definitions.
- Define unit, integration, acceptance, and end-to-end testing strategies for high-risk payment flows, including canary-safe production validation.
- Participate in technical design reviews, identify potential risks early, and deliver features reliably to production.
- Use AI-assisted development and agentic workflows across the SDLC for prototyping, testing, refactoring, investigation, and delivery while maintaining quality and security standards.
- Collaborate with Product, Security, Infrastructure, Platform, and external card-network partners to translate evolving requirements into secure, scalable systems.
