Senior software engineer

Adept Scientific•Boston, MA

About The Position

Adept Scientific is building laboratory execution intelligence for life science tools manufacturers. Our app gives scientists voice-guided, step-by-step protocol instructions at the bench and documents workflow errors in real time, so they spend less time troubleshooting and more time making discoveries. The same stream of run data gives life science tools manufacturers the insight they need to build better products, faster. The role Our platform is built and in the hands of early customers. We need a senior engineer to take ownership of it and carry it through its next stage: hardening what exists, scaling to more customers and protocols, and shipping the features that turn pilots into long-term contracts. This is not a greenfield role. You'll inherit a working production system and be accountable for making it reliable, secure, and ready to grow.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience, with significant time owning backend or infrastructure in production
  • Strong proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript, with expertise in LLM orchestration and data pipelines
  • Hands-on experience with AWS in production
  • Experience shipping and operating LLM-powered features in production, including evaluation, monitoring, and handling model or data drift
  • Experience building multi-tenant SaaS, ideally with customer-facing security or privacy requirements
  • Clear written communication: you leave behind documentation other engineers can rely on

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in life sciences, lab software, or other high-stakes domains
  • Mobile experience, particularly iOS and App Store release processes
  • Exposure to privacy and security frameworks such as SOC 2, GDPR, or HIPAA

Responsibilities

  • Own the production platform end to end, including the backend services, AWS infrastructure, and the iOS and web app, with a primary focus on backend
  • Get up to speed quickly on an existing codebase, document what you learn, and make deliberate decisions about what to keep, refactor, or replace
  • Scale the platform to support more manufacturers, protocols, and dedicated customer environments without compromising data isolation
  • Improve the reliability and accuracy of our LLM-powered features, including retrieval over customer documentation, voice interaction, and guardrails against incorrect or unsafe responses
  • Build and maintain privacy and security controls our customers depend on, such as tenant isolation, account deletion, audit trails, and data retention
  • Integrate with the tools our customers already use, such as electronic lab notebooks

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation (cash + equity)
  • Health, dental, vision insurance
